The DME *relay* is a more common problem than the DME itself. Also some of the cheapo new DME relays have been faulty from the get-go. For troubleshooting the jumper wire shown in clarks-garage is a reliable substitute.
Do you have a spark checker or other good way to test for a strong spark? It has to be able to jump around 10mm in the open air.
