924S No Start (New DME, ECU & REFF Sensors)

Hi, I have a 1987 924S.
I have done many tests and replaced many parts to no avail.
Any ideas or any input would be very helpful.

Thank you.

List out in as much detail as you can what you have done already. Without that, everyone is shooting in the dark.

New DME, new ECU, new reference sensors, checked inside of distributor, pulled spark plug, checked for spark, fuel pressure fuel pump flowing, tested fuse panel. Cranks, but does not fire. Smell of Fuel present from tailpipe when cranking.
Please advise. I don't believe the timing belt has been done or is out of sync.
Thank you.

The DME *relay* is a more common problem than the DME itself. Also some of the cheapo new DME relays have been faulty from the get-go. For troubleshooting the jumper wire shown in clarks-garage is a reliable substitute.

Do you have a spark checker or other good way to test for a strong spark? It has to be able to jump around 10mm in the open air.

Have you checked that the speed/ref connectors aren't reversed?

When you pulled plug and checked for spark, was there spark? What colour was spark.

Measure supply voltage at coil
Measure supply voltage at injectors
Measure impedance of speed/ref sensors
Measure peak-to-peak voltages of output waveforms from speed/ref sensors ('scope needed).

Note that your 924S is a 944 in 924 body. Early 924 and 924-S is VW and is not the same car.

Efficient troubleshooting (least amount of time & money) requires measuring parts and coming up with NUMBERS. Then comparing those numbers with what's listed in FSM will point out if a part is good or bad. Without the numbers, you're throwing random darts hoping something will stick. You're replacing perfectly good parts with new ones and nothing changes.

Download the "DME test plan" and do the tests in order (ignore KLR tests for Turbo). You're just one step away from getting it running! Keep on going, you'll find it!

I made several tests before buying parts. It's relatively cheap compared to working on my 1985 911. I have a 1977 924, very different from the S. Please hold I have not got to test further. Ty.
