+1 I've had that happen. Oil pressure light after a numbskull did the belt job. Nursed it home. That might coincide with the water pump issue on your car.
You can replace the oil pump in the car, dropping the pan like you said. I've done it that way. It will be hard to pop off with the 732. Sometimes the pump drive sleeve can be hard to slide off the crank but heat and big pliers help.
OPRV or pickup are possible too, like dj says
