1986 porsche 944 n/a oil pump replacement
I just saw a deal on a 1986 porsche 944 with a bad oil pump and water pump.
I'm mostly concerned with replacing the oil pump, can you just lower the oil pan without removing the crossmember to change it? |

I highly doubt the oil pump has gone bad.
They are very robust in the 944...likely has oil pressure issue the seller can't figure out. |

Sometimes the drive to the oil pump becomes loose, because somebody didnt tighten it up properly. A 944 oil pump is a very expensive part incidentally.

The front pulley about has to be ready to fall of before the collar that drives the pump will disengage. I'd be looking at the Oil Pressure Relief Valve or the oil pick up in the pan is cracked first

You can replace the oil pump in the car, dropping the pan like you said. I've done it that way. It will be hard to pop off with the 732. Sometimes the pump drive sleeve can be hard to slide off the crank but heat and big pliers help. OPRV or pickup are possible too, like dj says |
