Location: Placerville, CA.... You know, the only place on Highway 50 between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe the you find signal lights. Above the fog most of the time and I can see the stars of the Milky Way 8 out of 10 nights. Kinda cool.....

Per CA's Year of Mfg, {YOM) program, you can re-register the color series to any Year of production model. How that is done is by attaching the vehicle's Year (DMV Reg tab) to the plate to reassign it to that year. When the application is pushed through and DMV approves the request, assuming the plates are in fact "clear". Then DMV will send the new paperwork assigning that plate to the year if the car. They will also send two "tabs" that the current month and Year tabs get attached. Thus, displaying the vintage Year tab on the reassigned plate.

In case you are wondering how I know this and not just spewing smoke, I have done this two two 1968 912's and my fathers 1927 Model-T. The hardest part is to find a usable set of plates. My experience with my dad's 27 T was that the first set of original plates was that the number sequence was reassigned to a San Leandro School District maintenance truck. I hope this helps. I wrote up a big long thread on this in the 912Registry. I can attach a link if there is interest.

Cheers
