old or loose belts can come off and wrap around the crank pulley with the heat created it will foul the front main seal causing an oil leak or complete loss of oil. you got lucky, when they get knotted up in the pulley shroud there's not a ton of room so the belt is constantly reintroduced to wrapping around important things. if the AC is defunked, loose the belt and remove that boat anchor...
