I sure made things hard. Starting out, I had her old MacBook set up to use FireVault (sp?), which encrypts all of the files. Migration Assistant didn't migrate any encrypted files to the new iMac. I couldn't turn off FireVault because she had too much of her hard drive used up to allow the files to be all decrypted. When I'm logged in to the MacBook, I can manually copy files to an external drive and then transfer them over. But Migration Assistant logs you out as part of it's process, which then left the MacBook files encrypted. It was a bloody mess, so, I used a broad sword to a problem that perhaps could've been solved by skillful use of a scalpel.
