Remove the gauge and clean off the ground point. Same with the coolant temp sensor.
Before you get the coolant flushed, purge all the air in the system as per ae1969. Look on this BBS and you will find members' procedures for this.
Next I would look at the thermostat. If the bleeding doesn't work then you might have a sticking thermostat. Flush the system and while you have the coolant drained change the thermostat. It is a pain but get a GOOD set of internal snap ring pliers (Snap On) and you'll save your knuckles some skin. Cheap pliers will break. Don't forget to bleed the system again.
If this doesn't work then I'd go after the radiator. If all the other components are working properly (new water pump?) then the radiator is porbably clogged (as was mine when I bought it).
