Base or S model?
If it's an S what I think you're seeing on the back of the pads are the shims. On the front they are two metal drum-shaped pieces connected by a thin piece of metal that fit into the pistons. On the back they are different and not attached to each other, though their function is the same. Pry them off from the back of the brake pads with a putty knife. I always replace them when doing my brakes because taking them off always mangles them a bit.
