Given this is for a driver, buy a nice well sorted Carrera if $40K is your budget.
Pricing on parts and labor have been on a steady increase. That dream car will cost you a lot more than that at the end of the day unless you can do ALL the work yourself, drivetrain or body. If I were one of these gifted p-car enthusiast, I would buy a cheap rust free SC and make it my dream car.
