Well the BAE SC Turbo kits used the factory airbox, not sure how much boost they ran with those kits tho. I suspect the plastic intake will be fine with the pop off valve port closed off.

Here is thread where a guy mentions running the BAE kit for 20+ years at 9-11psi without issue:
