Furthermore, Carfax only gets a report if insurance was involved. On more than one occasion I have fixed a car out of pocket instead of getting insurance involved. I wasn't being shady or trying to hide something. The nature of the accident just didn't justify having the accident on my personal insurance history. If I have a $1000 deductible and get in a $1500 accident I might just fix it myself to avoid having my rates go up $100/mo for the next 3 years.
