sgoodwin-Amen! My first BCR had 10,000 miles on it and my 04 S had 11,000 miles on it when I bought them. Their suspensions had seen better days.
My second 04 BCR had 2,500 miles on it when I bought it in 2016 so Im guessing the stock suspension could be considered new. It was definitely better than the first BCR which I kept for foul weather riding and therefore could compare real time. I replaced the 2,500-mile BCRs suspension with a Wilbers set up. The difference was amazing. It was so much better I was worried that Id ride the old BCR the way I now rode the new BCR and would kill myself. So I got a Wilbers for the old BCR. Recently I showed the new BCR at a Concours event as a stock bike which meant reinstalling the 2,500 mile shocks. The difference in handling was apparent. John2Lman, dont get your hopes up on rejuvenation of the 04s ABS. That said, Id be happy to help you troubleshoot. Ive put about 160,000 miles on the 04, ABS, servo assisted, linked power brakes system without a fault. The system has nine brake bleeders that have a sequential bleeding procedure. Easy to screw up. Low brake fluid in the under tank module (not the front and rear brake reservoirs) will disable the ABS. If you have no ABS warning lights flashing and no ABS, I would suspect someone purposefully disabled it. There may even be missing components. |

When I bought my '03 BCR with 10,000 miles on it the stock shock compression damping was brutal! Even turning the adjusters fully OFF didn't help. A proper set up set of The Beemer Shop's Wilbers cured it into a comfortable ride that handles better than I can ride.

Congrats on your new to you, acquisition. They're uberfun. As you've already seen, there are plenty of members with loads of experience chiming in with valuable info. Here is mine: If at all possible find a pair of CF wheels. Nothing, and I seriously mean nothing comes remotely close to just how superbly these bikes respond to light wheels. Pricey, sure, but once you experience them.................. J.S. Last edited by Jozef Schumann; 09-30-2024 at 06:56 PM.. Reason: added photo |

A lot of the aftermarket items for the R1100S and R1200S are becoming super scarce. Or "unobtanium" as they say.
So if or when you see something for sale, you need to just jump on it. The price is less important than the acquisition. If you find any of those wheels for sale, consider yourself lucky.

Exhaust is off, rear shock is off.
Broke a couple header studs so once the headers come off, I have some work to do. Going in for a deep clean before I crack the valve covers open to adjust valves, etc. Rear tire is on, will need to reinstall so I can move bike under my 2 post lift so I can disassemble front end. Everything is in pieces but she will ride again soon! ![]()

On my R1100S and R1200S I always replaced the tires in pairs. I didn't like the thought of putting a new rear one when the front was 50-65% worn. Cost more, but damn, on new tires they're a joy to ride, especially the R1200S.
I commend you on taking it that far apart.
