Noticed more vibration on my bike at 38500km, I suspected the usual Throttle bodies out of synch but such was not the case. For those of you with stock bikes like mine with the cat check your cat. The cat is suspended by rubber vibration isolating grommets, the center stand as well. All of mine were worn extremely bad allowing the cat to pass vibration directly to the frame.I had two days left on warranty so this was covered, lots of labour but parts were cheap.
My bike is now as smooth as silk( for a boxer ). OBTW, my front blinker pod was cracked by a screw( warranty replaced ). I still appreciate this bike, great ride. |

Good note.
I noticed increased vibes when I went to the Vanderlinde and removed that big heavy cat... But its SOOOO much more "fun", and honestly the vibes do tone down as things "work in". |

Speaking of vibration, does anyone know what causes the oscillation at approx. 4-5k RPMS? You can feel this thing going *woooom woooom woooom* and seems directly proportional to engine speed. Is that the oscillation of the tranny? The motor itself?

The funny thing is I rode with one suitcase yesterday on the left side and the left peg was vibrating VERY hard compared to the right which made me suspect that the rear-frame is responsable, or is it the main frame (where the rear subframe is connected to)..

With the Vanderlinde exhaust installed, I felt a reduction in vibration. It may be affected by how the pipe is installed.
When I installed my cat replacement pipe I made sure the bracket and rubber gromets were pushed all the way into the mounts. I suspect if the bracket is not fully seated, there will be more movement of the pipe. The result may be increased vibration. Jeff "S" Moore |

If the "oscillation" you are referring to is a very low-freq (few times per second) booming kind of resonance, yes, I've noticed it on my 99. (It sounds almost exactly like a twin-engine airplane with the props slightly out of synch.) When my bike was new, it would do it around 3.5K RPM pretty consistently. It had completely vanished until I noticed it last week, but only for a brief period.
I don't think it is serious, but it is weird. I suspect it is some strange vibration resonance where the frame or some component of the bike resonates with the engine vibration. - Mark |

Occasional vibration I have noticed has been related to wind speed and direction. The lower forward edges of the fairing are not secured. When the wind catches things just right the fairing acts like a bullroar. If you carefully reach down and put your fingers on the fairing you can feel the vibes.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about. It doesn't bother me at all, just was wondering what causes it. I think it feels cool, it could put me to sleep if I started counting resonations!
