"Kindly do not sell my name and contact information, including my street or email address."
Perhaps you fired the first salvo in the exchange. Part of my business involves getting drivers license information from customers. I can't recall anyone making a similar request of me. Anyone who asked doesn't know me very well. Jim

I have done a lot of business with Blain since '03, even road down to meet him once and without exception always an excellent result.
I think that you might be wound up a bit too tight. Merry Christmas.

We did not solicit your business this time nor will we in the future. YOu found us, not the other way around. If you are as good as we are then you do not have to seek out business, it will find you. blaine This is the part I thought was a bit unprofessional. He's basically a smart@ss wrapped in a Jesus suit. He should have just said, "OK, we don't and we won't. Thanks for your business." But that said, I don't think I'd cancel my order....not that big a deal if I thought I was getting a good deal on tires. After all, I just want the tires, not a relationship with some guy in the warehouse. Much ado about nothing. Hey....a Very Merry Christmas to my Pelican Bro's!

I don't get it.
I thought the response was very direct, no questions and with a seasonal greeting. I've dealt with Blaine on a no-fault problem tire order and got no evidence of any religious undertone AND still got the tire cheaper and faster then most. Is there some concern as to where your money is going after he gets it? I'd be more concerned about where my oil money is going. It's raining here. No riding today. Maybe it is the season, not just the Season. Can we combine this thread with the triples thread?

Yup that's the part that PO Tom and I have to agree. But I would still buy from him if it was the best deal out there.

Best Deal
I agree with Jim with this caveat; the best deal involves more than price. tom

so the guy is a little strange.
ever spent time with jim at pro pilot? bones at pro circuit? bob hannah, just about anywhere? everytime i dip a toe outside the motorcycle industry, i'm made aware that we have some pretty strange personalities on two wheels, yourselves probably included. i guess we could all be styrofoam enthusiasts, and be on this board debating the various polymer merits of the latest '09 styrofoam samples displayed at the annual Toledo show. betcha they're a hopping bunch.

Steer clear of Willy at Styrofoam World. He'll ask you for personal photos for his '09 Cooler Calendar. Much prefer Bill at Fuming 'n Foaming. He costs a bit more, but it's all "yessir" and "nosir."

i quit dealing with Willy because he always wanted to debate whether EPF was expanded or extruded.
it's like "dude, we all know it's really called expanded polystyrene foam, not styrofoam, so what's your point? get over it!". the guy just won't listen and he keeps posting the same thing over and over and over. and over. and even over again. i'm SO EXCITED about next year's show, even though we've got to endure a few months of agony before it gets here in may. i heard they're creating a special float for the parade to memorialize the 1942 decision by the U.S. Coast Guard to try it in a six-person life raft. it's gonna be AWESOME!

I'm dying to see who's gonna win the Hardboiled Egg Carrier contest this year. I think they're finally going to be pocketable, based on some innuendo I read in the newsletter!

saw that, but in the same pub was the claim of the egg-within-egg container, but we both know that was in that weekly english tabloid, so i don't give it much creed.
seen the latest smear campaign? ![]() (steve~how much longer you figure we've got before they come after us with torches?

I'm wondering which bay in Long Beach those tasty morsels were umm... acquired. I think I could subvert the market and make the Surfrider Foundation all mine with a couple of marketing strategies. I can flood the market with cheap imported styrofoam from orange county, you'd be surprised how much I can get here in seal beach.

Is that the "Green" Styrofoam made from soybeans that disolves in water?

no bill, nor is it the corn-based biodegradable version either.
the only way you can get this styro to dissolve is to put it in acetone, where it will revert back to being styrene fibers. however, now you've got styrene fibers floating in acetone. best o' luck figuring out how to dispose of that mixture safely!

The local hazmat collection stations love this stuff.
Any chance to come out in full gear and respirators is a plus.

Our city had an article in the paper this week... They just bought a machine to recycle styrofoam... Turns it into poly-styrene bars that are sold for manufacturing.

Blaine's response was rude and poor business etiquette. I guess it depends on where and how you were raised. His response sounds more like that Bobby guy at BMW Atlanta (not an atlanta native) than the Blaine Ive known. Also, its got nothing to do with the Jesus reference, sheeze.
Ive bought a lot of tires from Blaine and Ive talked to him on the phone several times. Ive never had any problem with him except that sometimes he does not have or cant get what I want. Ive had better luck with a broader selection from American Moto or the like and you can get them just as cheaply. So, I agree with Boats indignation. |

I've met Blaine a few times now, as I live near his shop. As Paul pointed out above, he's opinionated and outspoken, and our politics are a million miles apart. He was never evangelical to me, thank goodness.
At first I was taken aback by his approach, but I've come to appreciate that he's an absolute straight-shooter. You will never have to wonder what he's thinking, as he illustrated in his reply. Clearly, he was put off by any suggestion or implication that he would sell anyone's contact information. Just not his style. He sells tires cheaply and efficiently, and works hard at it. If you ask for more than that, you might just get it. I'm not defending his approach, just explaining it somewhat. |
