That's gorgeous!

Is that a 5spd on the back? What is the gearing?Cogs?

Are those clip pedals?

So how does it ride?

Really nice job Eric!

Thanks for posting!

Nice. I have one of these to restore in blue. Thinking about keeping it original unrestored survivor though.

Masi Details

It is a 6 speed in the back with a 13-26 freewheel and 42/53 in the front. Has standard 50th Annv. pedals with straps, but for the 1st ride i put some clipless pedals on due to not having any old school shoes.
I havent ridden a steel bike in 20 years and this was a treat. Like butter over any surfaces. Didn't really notice the 21 pounds. 1st ride was 50 miles over a familiar route and set 34 Strava PR's! Must have been the gearing since my other bikes have compact cranks.
Tried a 7 speed freewheel, but chain was only .015 away from the chainstay.

I didn't have the opportunity to leave it as I found it. Spent over 10 years trying to find a 64-65 cm Masi to replace the one I had in the '80s. The frame I found was in a shed by the beach and had a ton of rust all over it including missing brake cable eyes and sheared off and rusted dropout screws.

I had Rob Robertson (past Masi frame builder) repair these, replace the stripped bottle bosses and add a pump peg, all with original Masi parts he still had. I built this to ride on occasion so built the wheels with clinchers instead of the period favorite sew-ups.

Overall was a fun project

My latest acquisition, a 2012 Niner Jet 9 RDO. I wanted one when they first came out but the $2600 price tag for the frame was a bit much. I picked this up practically new for $1000, oh sweet depreciation! (at least when I am buying )

I rode it for the first time today, I didn't have the suspension completely dialed, but even so I set a few Strava PR's and snagged the KOM on my favorite downhill (there will be some unhappy 20 somethings tonight ) so things are looking good!

@ Szazbo
Real nice Masi, almost too pretty to ride.

I have several steel bikes which I ride regularly, this is my Gazelle Champion Mondial, which was THE bike to ride in the Netherlands until the arrival of aluminum and later plastic

Nice. I still have my Gazelle winter bike from 1980. Contained the least amount of Reynolds tubing that still qualified for a sticker!

These are actually both mine, but the orange one is the one I lend friends who are interested in trying out a fat bike.

The green one is actually really nice, and I find myself riding it a lot in the summer as well. So much traction, it's hard to transition back to my 29er (which about the same weight). But spinning up the wheels does take a lot more energy, and my pace is a bit slower on the fat bike overall.

Bikes!

Fatboy carbon I had. Sold it this past Spring. Fun bike, especially with the Wren fork for summer.
Cheers,
Sean

This thing was like a road bike off road. So light, 20 lbs with pedals. Went uphill very fast.

My Raleigh XXIX. First year they came out with this bike. Was my only bike for some years. Trail riding and racing. Geometry on this bike is awesome. Not getting rid of it.

My current mtb. 2017 Carbon Fuse from Specialized. I am a big fan of the plus tire and the geo on this bike rocks. Plus two bottle cages and the whole interior of the down tube is storage. I keep a pump, tube, patch kit, CO2, tire levers and my car keys.
Cheers,
Sean

Nice bikes, I like the wheels on the Fat Boy Carbon, those cut outs are wild. Check out this belt drive Carve2 with cut out rims also.
