Canister ditching question...

My R1200S already came with the canister deleted, and I now want to take it off my Megamoto, but am a bit concerned about the electrical connect that leads to the return valve. When you guys have removed the canister what have you done with that?

When you have your bike serviced it will throw a fault. Not a big deal. The first time I had mine serviced they weren't sure what was going on until I told them I had removed the unit.

What about the valve thingy the wires clip-plug into, can I ditch that too, and just cap off the wires?

Yep. That's the solenoid that tells the throttlebody to suck fumes from the cannister. So, you can toss it too. Depending on where you are (Calif?), they may inspect to see that you have it but most places no one cares. So....you may want to keep the stuff and hoses "just in case".

It throws a fault code that is stored but the code doesn't cause anything negative to occur. I removed the solenoid and just taped up the connector and zip tied it to the headlight/gauges frame. You'll see the code with a GS-911 and the dealer will see it too if they work on your bike.
Bottom line is you can ride your bike as before-nothing will show on the data screen.

Oh no some one who wants to monitor how we say things. As long as the info is there I do not see a problem with humor or even political antidotes. Make things lively and even colorful at times. Those that would suppress it are obvious Obama fans, and oh yea no problem removing the canister or switch. But Cageyar does assume to much in that he thinks Gor is smart enough to follow instructions. Oh yea and again the canister only become an issue say in Arizona where they are actually checking and smoging bikes.

Thanks turbo for your opinion. I thought since politics was personal and sometimes passionate, a motorcycle forum might not be the best place for it but if humor makes it okay, fine with me. Here's my canister solution, write WMD on each one. That way they'll never be found even if looked for.

Muz here is some info on the charcoal canister, quite interesting. EU and AUS don't have them as far as I know and judging from some old threads, not many US dudes have them either, though they're sposed to

I took mine off of my MM wires and all. Never had a problem.

It does throw an error that can't be erased with a GS-911 but that's to biggie since you know what it is.

This is an easy tutorial to remove the canister. I remove mine last week. I care about environment but I care more about design and esthetic. That thing is fugly!. And if in Europe with stricter environmental laws don't have one I couldn't find a reason to keep mine.
