Old Akronts

Those old akronts were great at holding onto the mud weren't they? I had forgotten all about that until you pointed that out. Thanks Richard |

I was excited about the Super then saw the pictures and didn't like it anywhere near compared to the GSA (the GS - hmmmn, not so sure) Anyway - we have had a Super T at the dealer for a few months and in the flesh it is cool as. edit...and it's 9k cheaper than a GSA! In the September issue of Bike, they just compared the Multistrada, the R12GS and the Super Tenere.
One was determined to be underpowered, thirstiest and weighs the most. One wasn't an adventure bike at all with little ground clearance and a clear road bias. Only one won the comparison-I think you're familiar with the brand.................

Possibly the real solution for going too fast and getting tickets is not a GS but-
Trike 3 Wheels :: Moped Scooters :: Sunny Sports Inc. - Wholesale|Retail|Distributor|Importer|Trader

Scooters aren't the answer either.
When I worked at AHM, I had a CH250 scooter that would do 72 mph with me on it. I loved that thing and rode it wide open everywhere. About a mile from my house in a 25 mph zone, I was doing 60. When the cop pulled me over, he thought he was stopping some kid. When I took off my Arai and he saw my white hair, he was shocked. He actually let me go advising me to slow down and be more careful. I said, "Yes, Officer." There's no cure for 2 wheel speed addiction, except severe pain. Financial penalties don't seem to have the required effect. 31 years ago, living in Salinas, CA, the judge, after 6 tickets in 5 months, was annoyed. He said to me, "Mr. Gurak, I see you in my court one more time, not only will you not have a license in the state of CA, I'll see to it you won't have a license anywhere. I said, "Yes, your Honor." Last November, with my new job at Mitsubishi, HR said welcome to Mitsu-BTW, you won't be eligible to drive comapny cars. Gulp. I send them a letter explaining the car accident I had (rear-ended by a Korean-American) wasn't my fault, they said I could have a company car but one more ticket for anything and I was done. I said, "Yes, Ma'am." There's no cure.......

There is no doubt about it, New Jersey sucks. My state of Massachusetts sucks also. Way over policed. Every ****ing little town has it's own police force with nothing better to do but **** with guys on bikes. I'm lucky enough to have learned my lessons when I had a gsxr ten years ago and only ride agressively in CT and PA. Way less State cops and very few local police stations compared to NJ and MA.

Maybe not a cure, but I find adventure bikes and staying on the roads that they're designed for works remarkably well at dramatically reducing ticket risk. When's the last time you saw a speed trap on a gravel forest service road?
At least out west, I can ride a full 300-mile day on a mix of paved and gravel forest service roads and pass maybe a dozen other vehicles total. I'm not sure I've ever seen a cop on these roads and the forest service guys generally care much what you do. I also subscribe to the theory that cops will give you more slack if you whiz past them at 12 over on a GS-type bike with panniers looking like Ewan McGregor vs. looking like Max Biaggi on a sportbike. - Mark |

Update regarding the original thread topic: tickets.
Went to gas up the R12S yesterday and warm it up prior to starting the 12K service, trans, FD and new tires. RT. 523 north through my town of Delaware Township has some really nice curves. I waited at an intersection and after no cars coming and the coast clear, headed out for a quick blast back to the house. Winding out 3rd accelerating after one curve, who comes the other way? The local police officer. I immediately raised my left hand and pulled into a driveway. The officer turned around and came back. 71 mph in a 45 zone. I said, "Good morning, officer". He asked for the documents. Asked what I was doing so I told him gas up, warm up before service. He looked at my license and saw I lived 1.5 miles away. He said, "71 in a 45 Mr. Gurak. I know some of you guys like to gas it up but you've got to slow down", shaking his head. He handed me back my documents and said "Slow down". I said, "Yes, officer" He let me go. Whew. Funny thing is, same officer pulled me over either earlier this year or late last year for doing 45 in a 25 in the Rosemont section of town. Let me go then too. That's two strikes. I've got to get through this season without strike three.

No try, do or not do

my next door neighbor (state cop) had a birthday party for his 5 years old daughter yesterday. i was there with my family, and he had his relatives and some cop friends as well. after they got liquored up (oh yeah, cops drink, ALOT) the truth starts to flow, and basically with all the state budget cuts they are all scared of losing their jobs (state and local) so the only way to justify their salaries is to bring in revenue. it takes too long to generate statistics (years) about how safety has improved or crime rate has gone down as a result of more cops, so the easy win for all of them is tickets. there was a blurb in the local paper how a recent local "campaign" had generated hundreds of tickets. a few DUI, but mostly bull**** like seatbelt, talking on the phone, improper documentation, parking and of course speeding. if you are operating any kind of motor vehicle, you are a potential revenue source.
in a slightly related way, a few of them were talking about how they are popping dirt bikers for riding some trails in north jersey. the best part is that the tickets are for: trespassing on state land, operating an unregistered/uninsured vehicle, operating unregistered vehicles on public roads. the big win? $1000 in fines, confiscation and impoundment of the motorcycle until fines are paid, storage fees, you get the picture. it was a clear reminder of why i quit dirt biking 20 years ago. it is all feeling a bit too Big Brother to me, expecially when the fox is guarding the henhouse....
