Hi all, I'm in good spirits. I broke my scapula into three pieces and broke a rib. Otherwise just bruised all over & sore.
At least for once my bike is fixable. Sorry to all I held up on Saturday, not what I set out to do for sure ![]() As to what happened? I'm going with,"Life happened!" Take care & hope to see you all again soon. A special shout out to those of you who helped us out. "THANK YOU!" |

Jeff, remember this wasn't your fault. your were just the first to hit it the right way, so in a way you saved one of us behind you. Well here goes, friday a small group of us met at the awahnee for lunch. Hwy 41 had 25 miles of construction, dirt and gravel. on the way back Yuri's bike developed electrical problems,(we told him he should of brought his bmw ), so we threw his luggage on my lap and stuck him on the back of richard's bmw and away we went on another mr. toads wild ride thru the construction.the next day we start the usual ride and its a beautiful clear day. we get to the goat trail and i am running sweeper. when i get to the scene of the acident jeff is in a ditch with holen and tuna with him. looking at the marks on the ground was interesting to say the least. the road is a short straight way about 50 yds long into a normal left hand banked curve. the road was clean with no liquids on it. about 15 ft. before the skid marks made by the slider and the foot peg their is a small shelf with a dip after it about 1ft in diameter. the shelf looked to be made by a tree root. the interesting thing is that the dip and shelf cann't be seen 10 ft way. so here is what happened in my opinion: jeff comes out of the preveous corner at about 25-35mph. he is keeping a constant throttle because he has other riders behind him and is showing them proper lines thru the corners. jeff hits the the brakes at the proper time and the bike rolls over the shelf, front wheel gets light or gets air. when the wheel gets back to full weight it washes out and bam he is on the ground. He had no chance, it could happen to any true sports bike type with a short travel front forks. jeff

Hey Jeff (WB), very thankful to hear you were not hurt any worse than a few broken structural members. Those will heal up, however, you are getting older, therefore, replacement parts for your vintage body are becoming more rare. I'd suggest holding on dearly to the ones you've got!!!
Take care and heal up pal!! Kerry

Life Happened
I just want to give my perspective on this weekend’s ride. We had our share of situations, but we got through it together and had fun. Life does happen.
Friday, only three of us showed up for lunch at the Ahwahnee Hotel, but it was very worthwhile. It is a very impressive structure , built in 1927, I believe, and the service was great. The ride back to town from there was where the trouble started. Yuri’s bike had electrical gremlins and after three roadside repairs, we abandoned it and gave him a ride to the hotel to make other arrangements. The group met at the hotel later for dinner and had a good time. Saturday morning, we met at Pete’s for breakfast and then set out for our ride. Our first section was great fun and everyone settled in for the remainder of the day’s ride. The next leg is where our lead rider, Wheelieboy, had his misfortune. Nobody knows exactly what happened, but he fell on his left side and slid into the ditch. The bike was on top of him when Tuna came along and Jeff was ‘out’. He came around quickly and our biggest fears subsided, but we knew he needed medical attention. A couple of riders who had GPS’s and cell phones went to call for help. Others attended to his immediate needs while others prayed. The Park Rangers showed up first and took his vitals and gathered info for the report. The ambulance then came and loaded Jeff up and got under way. Holen and Tuna had begun the task of getting the bike back to town, and later went on home to get the pickup to haul the bike. The remaining seven of us, regrouped and headed for lunch. Along the way, one of the new riders had to make an evasive move to clear some late breaking from the rider in from of him, and he and his bike went over the bank. Fortunately, a tree stopped them only a few feet down and a passing motorist had a strap, and pulled the bike out. Regrouped again and off to lunch. During lunch, Shelly offered to lead a loop which would include the dragon (local) going both ways. That ride turned into about 120 miles and all seven of the remaining, made the loop. Then, back to the hotel for showers , spirits, and fellowship. Dinner followed at the steakhouse across from the hotel. We kept track of Jeff’s condition along the way and kept everyone informed. Oh yeah, Jeff W returned to the hotel early because of the creeping crud. He was feeling better when we arrived back at the end of the day. So, all in all, as Jeff said, ‘Life happened’, we dealt with it, and then went out and rode our bikes. We stuck together as a family would have and got through it together. I feel blessed to be able to associate with such a great group of people that have such passion for motorcycles and spirited riding. Richard P.S. There’s much more to share and I hope some others give their perspective also. Last edited by rckendall; 09-27-2010 at 03:22 PM.. |

Hi Kerry,
Yep had all the gear on my FU1 was in my pocket not on my jacket ![]() My jacket whether salvageable or not is going into the trash. The leather is just to thin and loose & seems to grab the asphalt rather than slide. My helmet is finished & did a good job. My gloves, boots & pants are all good. I will be buying new upper body armor that may or may not help prevent injury @ the lower speeds & a new thicker jacket. "I gotta try because quitting is not an option." ![]() I don't recall the first few minutes but I can say for sure I got beat up good, because I am very, very sore & bruised all over. I am happy to report my wife is being great & has taken this recent revelation very well. "God, I love this woman!" |

YOU are starting to worry me, Jeff...
Maybe it's time to scale back from 125% to 115%?.. just sayin'... after all, you do have a lovely daughter and a lovely wife... and I am sure they'd like for you to stick around for a while. Let alone us, your friends...

Yeah Jeff, I heard you were out of it for a few moments and dont remember what you did. Maybe I'm the first to break it to you.....but after you stopped sliding, you immediately stood up and began singing "Everything's Coming Up Roses and Dafodils" in a very convincing Ethel Merman voice.
But the real kicker was when you sang the Texas Aggie Fight Song.... in Taiwanese. That's when the guys started getting a bit worried..... I mean after all, who the HELL knows the words to the Aggie Fight Song, and who cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!

glad you're sort of okay jeff, but the concussion thing is definitely not good.
i'm still chased by an old BHT (blunt head trauma) of more than 20 years ago. just had lunch with a friend who got a concussion in a road racing incident just under a year ago, and he's still experience those moments of vertigo. being "out" isn't something to screw around with. if you whack your head again in the next few weeks, you might end up with the brain power of the average brussel sprout. not good. lemme know if you need help with the jacket. and stay off the dang bike for at least a few weeks. |
