HP2S Heated Grips

I finally got around to installing the R12S heated grips on my HP2 Sport.

Many thanks to Szazbo on the HP2 info forum for the advice and the parts list. Link;

HP2.info • View topic - Heated Grips for the Sport

The install was fairly straight forward.......a little finicky with some of the small screws and getting the left grip locating screw to line up.
The wiring connections are already on the bike....you just need to install and plug the new grips in........then get the dealer to upgrade the program.

I took it to Pacific BMW today......they were a little sceptical at first as even BMW Canada did not know if the upgrade could be completed.
Larry, the tech had it hooked up to the diagnostic tool and managed to upgrade to the heated grips along with a fancy new icon on the dash.

See the little grip with 2 squares above it......that is shown when the grips are on high......one little square shows up when the grips are on low....or no icon when off.

Parts cost was about $450 and another $43 for labour.

A little expensive, but it sure looks and feels good.

Cheers

Great post and project, Droptarotter. That is probably the second most important upgrade following ABS. I'm wondering how many more secret connections the wire loom has for upgrades.

i don't think anybody upgrades their machines to ABS, it either comes with it or doesn't.

it is interesting that the MotoGP 2D dashboard is "heated grip ready"

I would also guess that any connection in the loom on the R12S is probably on the HP2S, Navigation anyone?

Jeff, I didn't mean it that way on the ABS. I was considering that part as a factory upgrade. Sorry for the confusion. I'm glad to see a cosmetically friendly way to pull heat to the grips. however.

I'm ordering a set from Max's. Thanks for testing it out and lightening my wad again. So it was you all those times - and here I was blaming Rick.

It seems my HP2S has the wire snipped off for the plug for the heated grips power/switch gear. If someone with an 08 could pop the two little torx screws off the back cover of the right hand switches and post up a pict I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Thx Bryan for the catch...

Heated grip wires

There should be 2 wires that has a blue cap on it and it is snapped vertically towards the outside of the housing with the blue cap pointing down. On the right side I believe that it is behind the wiring harness that comes into the housing. If it is cut off you would see the cut end of the wires because there is no where to hide them. I already installed my grips so I cannot show the photo of the cap.

Peter's wires are cut.........I had a look yesterday......I guess BMW Canada needed to lighten the race bike as much as possible.
He just needs a shot of the connector so he can find a replacement..........I'll get a photo in a day or two if no one has responded.

Cheers

Do you have that block that is held down by the torx screw? What is that?

You can barely see the end of the clipped wire at the bottom centre..

Thx!

One can not see the clipped wire in the second photo. Unless you are talking about that little tiny white dot.......that's about where the wires should be.
The torx screw secures the grip/switch gear to the bar.
The heated grip male end has a "tit" that goes into the square hole below the torx screw.

Cheers
