Track Bikes and Track Photos

We don't seem to have an area for track related stuff, and I see cool pics in various other threads, so I thought I would start this.

I'll start it off.

Did a couple track days on my R12S and decided I needed a dedicated track bike. So I got this about a year and a half ago.

Pretty huh, well it was used, but looked good.

Then I took it to the track and it looked like this.

That was a bad day, but I was fine.

So I got some bodywork from roger, and hard parts on ebay, and in no time it looked like this.

Note the GSXR on the trailer, that is my friend Tim's, he is pretty fast, and low sided that day. There is a pretty cool video of it somewhere, I will try to find it and post it. There is video of my crash too, I am sure Bill will post that.

Anyway, a track bike just sits around the shop when it is not street legal, so I decided to make it legal so I can ride it to work, tail light and blinkers was easy, but I wanted a headlight also.

I mounted an Infinity projector housing to the fairing stay bracket, and then cut a hole in the fairing, did some fiberglass work, and now I have a street legal track bike.

Then, I do some bodywork, and paint it a couple times, add mirrors, blinkers, etc.

I have this my street legal track bike.

I know this is not an S BMW, but I think a lot of you guys have other brands of bikes, especially for the track.

let's see your track bike.

I first saw that and said wow, that is too nice to be a track bike...

Then i scrolled down....

Yup, that's more like it.

That second pic is what I'm looking for as a track bike.

I'm glad you didn't get hurt.

Don't feel bad Jon... I didn't find out right away either.

Here is the video of his crash.... I think it happens around 4:40 in the clip.

here's mine:
I still need it to be street legal, but it's a great bike & a killer complement to the 12s.
Last weekend I had the 12s air/fuel & tune checked on a dyno, then the following day had the 675 dyno'ed w/ TuneECU, a program that modified the ECU directly - found another 6hp. Fun times!
NOw, just waiting for some better weather!!

But with all those extraneous pieces removed, to lighten the weight, the same mileage between fill ups, (or should I say Fook-ups) can be achieved, with the lower profile tank

My Second on the Track

This is a fun thread, so I'll add a little to it.

I have ridden off and on for over 50 years, but only recently took an interest in sport bikes. I'll blame my grandson for that, inviting me to go riding with him on his new (to him) sport bike. His was actually the first one I really looked at, other than Ducs. So, before I knew it, I had one of my own and knew that I needed to practice someplace where it was safe. So, off to the track.

I was 65 at the time (hence the number), and after the initial nervousness was past, I felt right at home. Not very fast maybe but I still had fun and learned a lot. I also learned that the only safe place to ride fast is the track.

Thanks for starting this thread. It is winter for many riders.

Richard

My grandpa hasn't ridden since 1982 until I bought a bike a few years ago. He one ups me and goes out to buy a new 2009 R1200RT. With that kind of money I would have an s1000rr and still have my 11S.

Some fancy bikes you guys have there.

I started track riding on my R1100S. Been hooked ever since.

Did a trackday on a built 76' CB750. Too old and crude for me.

Built up an 88' Honda Hawk GT. Did a season of trackdays last year and I'll be racing on that this year.

This was after a crash late last year.

Rebuild in the kitchen this winter.

Nice stuff guys.
I need to install some photo resizing software on my new laptop here and scrunch some stuff down to fit (most my files are 4-6mb and well over the limit) Packing for the first round of the year now. Looks like rain, and maybe some hastily hand-cut slicks for our first endurance race of the year (luckily, a short one, at only 2 hours)
Good luck guys
Roger

Fotosizer is a free download and allows batch processing, and suffix to the file name, so you can save side by side with original, or a subfolder.

Since we're on the subject of track bikes and photos. Does anyone regularly use their R12/11S for track riding?
The reason I'm asking is I use mine fairly regularly (monthly when possible) to ride on track AND still commute 2-3 times a week, has anyone got tips with regards to extra maintainance needed or is the 5000km oil change and 10000km service enough?
Last thing I want is to run into issues with the bike.
