Should I keep my Candy Cane color R1200S?
I just yesterday bought my dream bike (2007 BMW R1200S). It isnt however in my dream color
. I work for Long Beach BMW Motorcycles and everyone here says "DO NOT PAINT IT", but I really am not a fan of the Red stripes. Should I buy an extra set of body panels for it and paint those and keep the reds safe? If i were to go with that option, where does one get an extra set of plastics for this bike other than at BMW (even with my discounts, they are expensive). file:///C:/Users/LongBeachBMW/Pictures/image1%20(1).JPG

It's your bike, you can do whatever you want to it.
But, Keep this in mind... The candy cane paint was a $590 option when the bike was new. There's also probably less than 400 total R1200S bikes in the US today. Stock paint is good, and the panels are rare. Someone may want them... Why did you not wait for a black or silver or yellow one to come up for sale?

Its a personal matter. Correct answer is you need a second bike. Since I have the candy cane, you can paint yours. Then, mine will be a rare item around here.

I know the fairings are rare, my manager threatened not to sell the bike to me if I repainted them haha. But do not worry R12s lovers, I will not SIN by repainting these panels. In response to the waiting for another, this one is in amazing condition and has been serviced at my shop since it was sold. The gentleman who owned it genuinely changed the oil every 1k.
Before I get new panels in a month or so, I need to get rid of this RED seat. Anybody wanna throw in their two cents on where to get a nice black one?

Try Ebay.de...
You should monitor what's available on German Ebay - both bodywork and seats may come up for sale more frequently than on US Ebay...
Also, R12S seat isn't the most comfortable seat to begin with, regardless of the color, so you may want to find used Corbin (much better, for me that is) or send your red seat to Sargent to reshape and recover it... Or, you can just buy black seat cover from Ebay and replace your red vinyl cover...

there is a set of candy cane gas tank pieces on eBay last week. buy those and repaint
you could also pay to get it professional wrapped. that way, you could always remove the film and have a stock bike in the future

There are a few aftermarket companies that make carbon fiber pieces that are cheaper that OEM.

Actually I have a set of the rear side covers that I was going to paint Magma red which I thought might look good with the candy cane tank. I even have a can of Color Rite Magma Red paint to do it. This was if I found a set of used OEM luggage and did not want to drill out my original silver ones. Unfortunately after hounding the ads for weeks and listing ads in parts wanted at different sites I gave up and bought some soft throw overs. So these are available if you are interested.

FWIW I painted my candy cane R1200 a solid red. Different strokes but I didn't care for the candy cane stripes. Also as much as I like the bike I don't think it's appreciated by the market so I think it's a depreciating asset anyway. Not that I care about that.

I regret every day selling my Candy Cane R1200S, loved looking at it.

Man, those candy canes are by far the best looking color of R1200S.

I'd keep the Candy Cane bits but buy a set in 'glass and paint them. Catalyst Racing has various body parts for the R1200S in fiberglass. They're in Escondido so shipping costs shouldn't be too bad. Check them out: catalystracingcomposites dot com

Candy Cane is THE color scheme for a R1200S in my opinion. Even had to hunt around at the time when I bought mine to find one that wasn't yellow or black.
If you really want another color, I'm with the group that says to just buy an aftermarket set and paint how you like but keep the original Candy Cane ones safe. |

If you wrap the tank you maight have to remove the black tape as it would look lumpy.

Dogboy, don't do anything with the color yet, you might end up really liking it after a few months. Doug
