Best Oil and Tires

OK, we settled the best oil, best tire question a long long time ago.

Does anyone have any recent experience with "Odessey" batteries?

Or better yet, what is the best replacement battery for the

2002 BMW R1100S Boxer Cup Edition

Anyone using a Lithium Ion battery?

I think we have put almost as much discussion into batteries as oil or tires.....

I've been running a WPS I bought on eBay for about a year in my S1000rr. Super light, no problems to report. Cold starts are different, you have to key on the bike and let the battery warm up running the lights and guages for a moment - and it will fire up strong. If you don't wait, it will sputter and stall. That, apparently, is the nature of LI batteries.

I will add to my other two bikes as their lead acid batteries shows signs of expiring.

Running 2 Deltran lithiums & 1 Odyssey. The Odyssey is far older than the newest lithium & works fine. If the lithiums last & should the Odyssey fail sometime this decade I will put a lithium in the 11S. After removing the ABS pump & plumbing I was surprised how much faster the bike responded to turn in. If I can remove 90% of the battery weight up high I would expect an even quicker response.

Been running a Stinger LiFePo4 battery from Batterystuff.com for a few months. So far, so good and love the 3.6 lbs weight.

I've had a Shorai for 2 years now on the 12s one and another one that has been sitting for 2 years with half a charge or less. I'm curious to see if the one sitting still lives.

The one on the 12s I've discharged a few times on accident, put a lead acid charger on it for 5 minutes and let the bike charge the rest. Pretty much did everything you're not supposed to do. Still working.

All this feedback is appreciated.

I'm leaning toward the Lithium style.

Prob'ly the Shorai.

Long time ago I tried a battery that was super light weight on my '88 K75S, and I never could get that thing to work (the ones back then were iffy at best) so I've always stuck with the tried and true BMW batteries which really are very good.

But this time around it seems they have the bugs worked out; this will be battery #3 for my '02 Cup with 113K Hell On It!!! miles; the weight reduction alone is like 10 pounds and that by itself is worth a try!

A sparky mate of mine (sorted all the strange past lecky butcherings on my 79 Guzzi, sorted my 60 series Landcruiser, and just finished a great job wiring my shed) reckons buy cheap batteries and keep them on a battery tender. My R1100s came with a new sealed lead acid battery and a tender. I'll see how l go. My 2c.
