I figured you would be the test pilot for this bike Jeff. Just don't let them try to put in any updates without your express permission first. It's a very good policy that I follow on all my BMW bikes. Don't tinker. Just ride it and give us a good report. Looks like the wx is improving out there. Can't wait to here your impressions.

Me too, put down a deposit today. Also silver, it's supposedly in transit to "the warehouse" and delivered to me by the end of the month.

The test ride last Fri did me in, what a freakin bike!

OK,
I put 375 miles on the RR since i drove it home on Saturday,(2 days).
Here is what i think.

Suspension,
The back was harsh front way to soft.
Softened the back rebound and stiffened the compression.
On the front stiffened both.
Bike works better.

Tires,
36 Front 42 Back is BS, way to hard,
I changed to 32 front, 36 back, may decrease the back to 34 psi

Modes and riding,
Ran in rain mode because of wet and very dirt roads.
I needed to get used to the front end because of the difference in the type of bikes i have been riding for the last decade.
Rain mode can be frustrating because of lack of throttle response, example rolling on the throttle coming out of a corner, it feels like a sustained bog then it hits slowly.

over all the bike has loads of potential and handles very well, very easy to get used to.
Got tail and tank bags, both are top notch but the tank bag is a little big.

pulled off the rear set of pegs.
had ugly holes, the bmw shop had covers for $58 but i put some new flat seat plugs for the R100RT into the holes and they fit perfectly and it looks stock.
the Bike will need a oil and coolant screen for the front for protection.
I'm going to modify the license plate turn signal cluster to make it smaller and less obtrusive.

IMO with this bike a fundamental change in riding technique needs to be done in order to fully maximize the RR. But I'll discuss that later

questions???
Jeff

Great start, Jeff. Anxious to here more about the bike from you and other owners. How does the suspension compare to say a Ducati 848? You need to post some photos with the bags and the plugs for the 2-up peg removal.

I rode mine for 3 days and decided that the factory suspension settings were too rough. Softened the rear and settled the front a bit...much better. It came with the Metzler Racetek K3s on it...they are about half gone now with 1800 miles...
I have an extremely lovely girlfriend who loves to climb on so I left the rear footpegs on...she loves the bike by the way...the design of the pillion seat works well at 8000 rpms...
I posted my 1216 mile trip report somewhere else on the forum...with video of Tepesquet Canyon...

Test rode this little beauty today , what a rush , thankfully it was at a dealer on the other side of the country from home or I would have signed up on the spot . Even at Six foot Four there was plenty of room for me , the saddle was more comfortable than my 1200S and the noise and power were absolutely intoxicating . Only rode it in sport mode, and got the TC light flashing, sublime to ride the dealer had plenty of goodies on show including the tank and tail bags and the wicked looking little Akra end can .

None available until July which will be mid winter for me but a black one may well make its home in my garage then.

i think you are letting the excitement of your purchase influence your perception, but if you are happy that's all that matters.

you should try doing a video facing forward, watching behind is a little weird.

I was impressed with the amount of movement on the swingarm. It sounds like a Singer sewing machine.

No...seriously...I went out and rode them both in the same day on the same roads...the difference is the angle and placement of the seat along with the peg position. The seat tilts your torso towards the tank on the RR whereas the 1100 seat is more flat and causes a bend in the torso which makes for more strain. The pelvis orientation on the RR is much more suited to utilizing core musculature.
As for the rearview...tomorrow's ride will be front and rear and side...stay tuned...film at eleven.

hey all,
had the bike 8 days got 900 miles on it.
Here is what ive found so far:

Did the first service at a shop, $225 for an hour and a half.
no monkey butt,
rpm above 10k will pull your hands from the bars if your not ready for it.
Soften the rear low speed 5, high speed 7 compression, damping 5-6
harden the front, both raise from stock 2 klicks, (will give you the exact # later if wanted)_
These settings are only for breaking, after 1500 miles the suspension will be broken in.
front end takes a little getting used to if you haven't ridden proper jap type sports bikes lately.
traction control is safe and helps but it does take the hooliganism out of this bike.
Shifting between sports and race, after i put stickier tires on the bike will try slick.

*** rear luggage has a problem, if not set correctly it will slide forward, but if it is set correctly it will take the paint off the edge of the rear strap where it wraps around the edge. IMO the rear buckle is to small and the real strap needs padding. Basically their are 2 big strap in the front pulling on the bag and one small strap wrapped around the tail piece.
Btw you can run the rear luggage without the rear pegs.
gas mileage has ranged between 32-50 mph averaging usually around 38 mph
more later,
questions????

cya
Jeff
