looking hard ..some budget issues
Been a longtime Porsche guy, on here for 20+ years.Had an Audi tt for the past 3, but the p car jones still holds me badly.I turn my head every time a cayman or 911 or boxster goes by.My son has a gorgeous 07 orange boxster s. so that is no help
I need an automatic,,,,tiptronic era car under 15k. I know a 07 - later would be a good choice but I think a 99- 06 is more likely to be found. My game is the lowest mileage, nicest car I can find in a color other than black and silver, I really like different colors,,,,green, red, blue, white all work...Trolling the sites and here, any advice is welcomed. I know well the ims and other issues. But I am not far from Jake Raby who can solve that if its a problem. Thanks guys,,,

Do you want a 986 (97-04) or a 987 (05+)the look a bit different.
They are optioned differently and a base 05 2.7 has almost as much hp (240hp) as a 04 older S (250hp). Base 2.5 = 200hp. 2000-2004 2.7= 217-228. Base 2.7 2005-2008 is 240-245hp and then again the 05S (3.2l) is 280hp and the 06S (3.4l) is 300hp Also the 987 may be a bit more spacious on the interior than the 986. They look VERY different too. Silver and gray were too popular in this era too. IMS is two stages.. 05+ cars need the engine pulled and the case split. 04 and older appear to be fixable from the outside. And if it is a problem, it will cost as much as the car itself. If you are getting a Tip, I'd get the newest most powerful you can so its impact is less noticed. Also, make sure there is recent TIP service performed. Those can be spendy units as well.

just be aware that up to the '04, replacing the IMS is a bit more expensive on the tip cars than on the manuals. Trans R & R can be a bit more work but still cheaper than replacing the engine for not bothering to replace it!

be sure to have a PPI done and if needed, pay for an oil change so you can have the oil filter cut open to look for shavings.. then again, maybe a previous possible buyer just did that too
Good luck with the search (to me, that's the most fun!)
