06 Cayman S DIY Content coming soon...
Some of you might know me for my DIY videos of my 986 Boxster. There is a lot of crossover, but I just picked up a 2006 Cayman S 987.1, so if you haven't discovered the channel yet, here's a preview of the car that will be bringing lots more DIY content:

@djnolan - which interior trim pieces are you trying to remove? There are different techniques for each piece if you do not want to break mounting tabs. I've been through a lot of them so let me know and I will try to help.

I need to replace the headliner. There is a detailed procedure posted, but I want to be extra sure to not break anything. Also I would like to lift up the shifter boot to lube the shifter.

Cables are replaced all the time..if you have old cables, its time to replace them, maybe even with better ones.

Removing the headliner is as you state, well documented. Watch the videos and I'm sure it will save you from breaking anything other than a few fasteners themselves. Don't be alarmed or discouraged as some of them age-out and will break no matter who does the job. Once you have them in your hand you can search amazon for a bag of clips at low cost. Or, go for the originals at obviously higher prices. Your call.
As for the trim surrounding the gearshift, and assuming a manual, the front part of the leather surround, near the cubby hole, is easily pried upward with a plastic trim tool. There are two clips, one on each side, and once loosened, the whole boot slides forward (towards the front of the car) by a simply pull motion. It is not necessary to remove the shifter but that is also not difficult in the event that you want/need more clearance. Good luck! |
