Knock sensor problems
Hi All, I have an '00 Boxster S. 100K miles. I occasionally get P0410 and P1411 which I understand is the "early air" injection system which helps to reduce pollution before the car can get up to temperature. I erase the light with a Fix-D dongle and things remain quiet for a while.
Recently and Airbag light came on and I couldn't erase it with the dongle. During Amazon Prime days I purchased an iSoftware POR 2.0 to turn off the Airbag. Took care of that quickly but I'm due for State inspection (New York) in November. So, what do I do? I hit it to check everything, and I've learned that in addition to the air injection system I have to replace the Knock Sensors on both. Ouch, that hurt, I'm a spark plug, oil changing person. Well, I bravely watched some YouTube that was helpful but I'm afraid that the convenience of YouTube made me toooooo brave! I removed the plenum and related pieces. I managed to get the knock sensor off bank one. Here's where the trouble begins...the problem is that the wires weren't attached to anything besides the sensor. Damn mice! 1) how do I find where it should be connected to? Do I have to disconnect the intake manifold ( ![]() 2) It's much more congested on bank two and I can't even see the knock sensor. Can anyone give me some help on locating it? I am at a loss. PLEASE don't make me put this on a trailer and embarrass myself at our local Porsche Tech shop. I would like to walk in and ask for inspection knowing that everything will pass, and I did it myself. p.s. this is my first Porsche. Waited to get one and after 70 years I finally got my wish. Help me keep a VERY good car going another 10+ years. |
