check engine light
Re 98 boxster. The check engine light came on when we left the grocery store and it has remained on steadily (not flashing). The dealer said to check the gas cap. We had just bought gas a couple days ago. The cap was fairly snug but not to the click point. The dealer said to tighten the cap and drive it this weekend and see if the light goes off. So far, the light has stayed on.
If the light stays on, we are supposed to take it in for them to check. He said it is ok to drive as long as the warning light is steady. The dealer is 60 miles away and my schedule is tight. Is there anything else I could do before I take the plunge. Oh yeah--don'tknow if it makes a difference but it has 29,300 miles and I did have the 30k service done in April. thanks chris

It takes a number of drive cycles for the DME to turn off the light if the fault is not detected again. You should turn the gas cap to two clicks. If it went on because of the cap if would have gone on right away, not days later. Jeff

Thanks. That's probablywhy the service guy said keep driving it this weekend. Guess we'll take advantage of the sunny warm weather and try to turn that little light off.
