interior light problem

The only time the interior lights come on in my 2000 Boxster S is when the engine is running and a door is opened. Or if I turn the switch on at the light.

Shouldn't they come on when the car is unlocked? Door open, engine off? Is there suppose to be a light in the trunk? Is this a possible fuse problem?

Thanks

Will the light come on when the key is turned on and the door open but the car is not started or running?

If you need to turn the key on for the interior lights to work is usually a sign the car is still in the transit mode. When the car is shipped the lights do not work without the key on to save the battery. During PDI they car is supposed to be taken out of the transit mode. Your cars might still be in the transit mode after all these years.

I'm guessing you have to take it to a dealer. I called the closest one (60 miles away) and could not even get them to call me back.

Probably a bad ign switch. You might notice a coule of other features that don't work when the key is out. Just a guess though.
