Boxster - Replacement Engine
Hi Wayne! On the quest for more performance from either my 911 or 986 as we've previously discussed I've decided my 986 is the best candidate. Very long story short, I've lightly tuned my 986 but have bitten the bullet about a 3.4 or 3.6L replacement in my 986 as you suggested. Please find attached a quote from Roock Autosport. Please pass your views on their quote or suggest any other good sources for the exchange? Being a man of 959 caliber, do you think a 3.4L or 3.6L upgrade will deliver serious performance? Thanks for all your support Wayne, Pelican are the lifeblood of my Porsche hobby! Much appreciated, -Adrian ![]() ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's a decent price for the swap. Keep in mind that you'll have to have a list of Porsche parts that you also need to factor in (new clutch, etc.), plus of course the cost for another engine.

Without details on what has been done to the engine, what it is and what it costs it is hard to comment. What instructions come with the kit, what warranty, etc. Too many unknowns.
There are people who rebuild our engines, make them 3.6 or even 3.8s and address any known weaknesses with parts that are designed to be better, install it, dyno tune the car giving you the results, figure out the flash, road test the car and deliver it all back to you so you know the power and the driveability are one source. And there are people who rebuild the engine with stock parts. And some do something in between. The devil is in the details. HP is not cheap. Doing it wrong is more expensive. |

Right, I agree with Mike - seems a bit light on the details. I don't get the whole story here, you're finding your own engine, then shipping it to these guys, then having them modify it, and then having them ship it back for you to install? Doesn't seem like the best way to go, I would just do all of the work yourself, my tech article on the conversion documents 99% of what you need to do.
One thing - the shipping quotes back and forth are very reasonable. -Wayne
