02 Boxster clutch problem??
Hello all, I have a 2002 Boxster. I have never had clutch problems with this car at all!! The car has 86,000 miles on it. I drove it to my friends house and everything was perfectly fine. When I got back in the car to leave the clutch was slipping badly and finally went all together!! There was no slipping, grinding, or a smell of burning clutch previous to this. I still have pressure when I press down on the clutch peddle, and I can hear it shifting in the rear of the car. None of the gears work, it acts like it's in neutral. I am lost with this one!! Any suggestions? Thanks!!!!

Sounds too fast for a "normal" clutch failure. I would make sure that the slave is actually moving the clutch fork when the pedal is depressed. Hydraulic components can fail in such a way that they pump up and won't release.

My clutch failed in one normal shift with absolutely no prior warning. Was working perfectly fine and then pedal went straight to the floor and stayed there. Once it starts slipping, its gone.
Clutch plate was in several pieces and bearing was shot. Stock dual mass flywheel worn out also. Check the slave cylinder first just to be sure, but if its ok then its time to pull the trans and inspect the clutch, bearing, flywheel (be sure to test it), etc.

A friend of mine has an '04 986, and the clutch went at less than 50k miles with no prior warning. These things happen. The clutch on my '97 SAAB 900 turbo went at around 75k. Car pulled hard with no problems up until that point. And then *bam* pedal to the floor and no forward thrust vectoring. Luckily, the Boxster's clutch seems to be easier to get at than a front-wheel-driven SAAB (clutch job was a PITA and I've done it twice, now with 200k mi on the clock).
