Looking for help

We're nubbies to the Porsche world. Pick up a 2001 a Boxster S just after Xmas. Had 48,000 on it. All records. Some scrapes and minor pings here and there but in overall good condition. Had Doug at "The Werks Shop" in Melbourne, fl give us the thumbs up on it (he's a great guy to work with).

These are minor things were looking for. One if the Keys is falling apart. I cannot get it to stay closed w/o maybe gluing it. Any ideas for repair or do I just need to have a new key made?

The car is also missing a Porsche emblem from the center of the rim. They are gold. Had another one fall off today when installing new front tires. I guess a hot glue gun could do the trick? But need another elmbem too., can they be purchased used?

Thanks and sorry for a scattered first post.

Hi,

welcome to the forum

About the key: I believe the trick is to put the electronic circuit board inside the key fob onto the side with the buttons and then try to close it.
Having a new key made will set you back by about $260 (welcome to the world of Porsche .....)

The best source for the center caps is eBay. A set from the dealer would set you back by at least $150, but you should be able to find them on eBay for 1/2 the price
They should stay in place by themselves, I would not recommend to use a glue gun
The eBay search term would be "Porsche center cap"

good luck

I had the same problem with one of my keys. As stated above, try putting the board on the button side of the fob then closing it. Also, there is a small rubber gasket that needs to be lined up. If its off even slightly it makes closing the fob difficult. If your remote still works you can purchase the replacement housing for approximate $25.00 or so.

Thank you... I was able to get the key back together with your hints.

Re the cap. What came loose is the color crest off the center cap. It looks as though they were glued on when made. Any idea where to get just the Porsche center crest?

+ 1 on the replacement key housing from Suncoast. I had the same problems with one of my keys not staying closed and this solved it.

For the wheel center caps, there are several knock offs on Ebay if you search for "Porsche Center Caps" for a fraction of the cost of OEM. If you still have the crest you can reattach with epoxy or I've used J B Weld and its held up for several years.
