Engine replacement question

Hello,

I've found a 2003 Boxter S I'm looking into and it had its engine replaced in 2005.

How can I research what it was replaced with? If it was a 2005 engine wouldn't it be the type of engine where you have to completely disassemble the engine for a IMS bearing?

Thanks

Sometime in 2005, Porsche switched all engines over to the "final solution" style IMS that requires total disassembly to update. Unfortunately, the only way to know which cars/engines have this style bearing it to look at them; if they have the 22MM center bolt, you cannot update them.

There is no other known way (e.g.: serial numbers, dates of manufacture, etc.) to determine what you are dealing with.
