engine case bolts
hi guys.
about to start my clutch,IMSB,RMS... in the Bentley book, it say to replace 4 bolts that connects the 2 parts of the engine case, when doing the RMS job. this picture shows 3 of the 4 bolts mentioned in the Bentley book: ![]() i guess its one of the "while you in there" type of thing. however, i didn't see any reference to that on Wayne's article, or anywhere else for that matter. is that necessary? or is it an overkill? also what is the green stuff on the IMS cover stud? thanks. Meir. |

I didn't replace those when I did the IMS/RMS on my 02 Boxster, but I also have a slow leak from where the bottom 2 bolts are.
Actually, oil started to drip from that area at a rate of 1 drop every other day, which prompted the whole IMS/RMS inspection and replacement project. Once the flywheel came off, the RMS was leaking and not the IMS. However, in retrospect, the RMS wasn't leaking badly enough to cause oil dripping onto the floor. So, I guess the leak has been there for some time and maybe the replacement of those bolts has something to to with that area of the case being prone to leakage. Please post whatever else you find out on this subject. |

As I mentioned before, it is not part of any project in Wayne's book, and never read any reference to that procedure except in the bentley book. In fact, your post is the first one I encounter talking about an oil leak from these bolts. I can get the bolts from pelican parts when ordering the IMSB. thanks for the input seven. Whould like to here from more members that experience a leak from these bolts, if at all. |
