IMS won't pop!

I have not come up on this problem before! Doing an IMS replacement. Center bolt snapped. Using a blind bearing puller and the bearing won't budge. We have, however, managed to pull the vehicle a touch across the garage, while still on the jackstands, while attempting to remove this. Yay, brute strength. Any suggestions?

Not to sound pedantic, but have you removed the internal retaining snap ring? It should not take that amount of effort...........

Hmmm

Well, it is a double bearing. I understand that with the single it is the clip style that lays on the top, but the double is inside and should pop when you pull.

I definately see this topic beaten to the ground in many forums, and asking for advice on it was a last resort. Makes me feel like an idiot because the IMS is discussed frequently. I just have not seen this issue come up.

Even with the internal style, it should not take the amount of force you are describing. Usually, they just release with a pop and the bearing comes out.

get the LN engineering bearing puller it will work better than a generic puller.

Me too

I have the same issue!
And yes I am using the LN bearing puller.
It is the early double row bearing with the internal snap ring.
the internal bolt broke so now I have resorted to a blind hole beasring puller. still no joy!
I have pulled one before so i am familiar with the process and the amount of force needed to overcome the spring type internal snap ring.
Suggestions?

Wow, not a lot of help here! Unlike the 911 forum.
I finally took a die grinder with a carbide burr to it and cut it out!
Left me a lot of clean up but progress has been made.

And people wonder why we no longer sell the IMSR kits retail for DIY installs.

Are you saying you wouldn't give me a parts warranty on my DIY install?

Jake, you are exactly right. This repair should have been left to a pro!

I hope to get a few thousand miles out if. Didn't cost much, Learned a ton!
