RoW to Canada?

Has anyone imported a mid-80s RoW from the US into Canada. A WP0ZZZ . . .

I'm wondering about Canada customs etc. Would they freak?

Any vehicle over 15 years of age (as per build date on VIN plates) is allowed into Canada, there's no restriction on them.

Do not just drive by the US station to the CDN side like you would if you were importing a stereo or something. Vehicles must be checked in on the US side first.

You are required to leave the original "certificate of title" with the US border station that you wish to cross at for at least 72 hours.

Also make sure you declare the car at the CDN border as you will not be able to register it if you don't get a document showing you paid your taxes and duties.

BTW 15yr old...import anything, 20yr old...duty free, taxes...still gotta pay

Tecnically it's 15 years old for D.O.T. requirements (don't have to upgrade lights, seatbelts, speedo, ect). The 20 year rule is that it's brought in as a antique, but as it's made in Germany it still can be taxed (duty). But most Customs guys just let it go. (Germany's duty rate is 2.3% or something like that. You can fax a copy of the title to the US border crossing (where the car is going to cross at) and they will accept the fax. Have the original with you when you cross tho. 72 hrs before the car crosses. Check with the border crossing to see if it's one that does car crossings first. Done it 3 times now. NP

I just imported an 87 US 911 into Canada last month.

Very simple and easy, like the other replies suggested if the car is at least 15 years old. My only caution would be about the car title. I checked with 3 different crossing points and they all told me that a fax of the title was not acceptable, that they needed the original at least 72hrs ahead.

Overall, I spent about an hour at the border (you have to stop at the US side first and then the Canadian).
