S. Ontario Run Thread 2006
Since the season has begun, we might as well start a new thread. Since Chris had to back out - some slimeball excuse about a baby or something
. . . I have mapped out most of a route for an Fchat run & thought it might work for a dedicated Pcar run too.I will be vague about the details, but 1st part is Milton area (about 1 hour) & then 2nd part could run north & incorporate the Forks (another hour). This run is mainly a steal from the PCA Caledon run. It would have to be a picnic lunch or restaurant since I live in the heart of Toronto traffic madness. The date is up to the group. Any interest? Ian

I'm definitely interested in going for a run. I see lots of older Porsches around so there should be a large group. I also saw a new Porsche GT a few days ago. I asked her if she wanted to come out but she looked at me a little weird-- with my girlfriend sitting next to me....

Hey Ian, thanks for taking this over. I do feel bad for backing out, but I guess I have a good excuse
With any luck, I might be able to make it. What I'm learning is that these kinds of things are always a last-minute decision. No commitments possible, just 'if everything's ok the day of, then go!'Man, that'd be cool to see a CGT driving around. The only one I've seen was at the car show last year. I did see a yellow Cayman on the Gardner westbound around Islington Sunday night.

I finally saw my first Cayman on the road too. And yesterday driving down the 404 I saw a red longhood & a white Carrera cab northbound within 2 minute of each other. Always cool to see the older ones out.
Re the run: Yeah, I'm a reluctant organizer but we have to get together. I also drove some nice roads near Grimsby with the PCA run this past weekend, so I've filed them for future use. Chris - What's the story on the Boxster from that import thread? You're not going new on us are you? Ian

The PCA run looked almost identical to the trip Terry and I planned. Looks really good, and I definitely think we should all do it later this summer.
The Boxster is more for my dad than me, although we'll probably both use it. Not sure how long we're going to keep it for, depends how much we like it. No worries, I'm not getting rid of the old girl. She may get a heart transplant, but I'm keeping her. I actually heard the words "why don't you just buy a second 911?" come out of my wife's mouth a few weeks ago, in response to my constant pining for a cabrio yet extreme hesitation to sell the 72. My lower jaw is still sore from hitting the floor! Of course, the bank account dictates that a second 911 is not forthcoming anytime soon...

I drove a Boxster S in the Texas Hill Country that one of my customer's owned. A great car. I even had it sideways! Once you've been warmed up by that a 911 Cab is the only way to go.

I'm up for helping to get a run together. I've been pretty tied up with work lately but the light can be seen at the end of the tunnel. We should at least get together for a coffee one morning or a brew one evening.
Ian, the PCA run went pretty much past my place evidently, Carluke, just southwest of Ancaster. Some neighbors saw you guys go by. I'm jealous and should join the PCA. I would have known about it.. Terry Last edited by TCB; 06-01-2006 at 04:22 PM.. |

I'm in if the dates work out, had fun last time.
What about doing a Niagara run as was suggested by Christien that usually a nice colourful drive. I know of a couple of older porsches that might be able to show. I think Christien should take the wife on a drive with some good hills it may help the little one on the way, thats what we used to do in the old days. Good luck with that. Drive safe Larry

Terry: It was a great run. Slow for the 1st half as we followed the Grand. A bit quicker in the 2nd & some nice pin to pin roads up & down the escarpment.
Larry: If we do Niagra area, I only have 1/2 a route. Anybody know the backroads of St Catherines/Niagra? I can email a map of what I have . . . just PM . . . Ian

I'm pretty sure I have the route Chris and I were working on last fall. I'll dig it out. It took us from Niagra on the Lake through the wine route back up to Hamilton. I'd say end at my place but I live on a strech of gravel road. If it has been graded I don't drive the 911, after it's packed down it's great but it's too much of a crap shoot to try to end up here..

Hey everyone, I've been emailing back and forth with Jim (copper) the last few days. You guys might have noticed he hasn't been around here much lately. His wife Ves is in the hospital right now. She's got lupus, and it's been acting up pretty badly lately. Anyway, the point of all this is that he mentioned that he was hoping to take her on a vacation in August, after she's out of the hospital and before he starts school. I think it'd be really awesome if, at the next run we could take up a collection to make sure that vacation happens. I don't think Jim really needs charity - he's going to law school in the fall! But I think with starting school and who knows what kind of accomodations they're going to have to make around the house, a vacation wouldn't really be in the works.
Anyway, let me know what you guys think. I don't mind coordinating the fundraising, although I have no idea really how to do it, but I'm sure I can figure that out. And count me in for the fun run. I can't really help organize or host everyone here, but for this, and after my day yesterday, I think it'd be good for my soul as well

I think we need to have a meet some at a convenient coffee shop to discuss this. I still have fond memories of Jim rolling in with a cloud of smoke at the first fun run...

Sure thing. I'm busy tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday, but during the day I could slip out for a bit, or Thursday evening is open. Give me a call, anyone else who wants to meet up to plan, pm me for phone #. (gawd, now we gotta plan to meet to plan a drive? we suck!)

Here's what I have. I can email higher res & road details. The green was the run route. Yellow is a route from the defunct biker site.
Ian btw: Chris - thanks for the heads up on Jim & Vesna. I pm'd him.

Ian keep me posted on this. Lynn and I were looking forward to joining in on another run this year. We also talked about hosting one at our house. Maybe an overnight thing so people aren't so rushed to get home (i.e. "a beer or two"). It would be better suited to later in the summer though to make full use of the back yard and pool. We've got a pretty big yard and some extra space inside. We also live in a quiet town outside London so the cars would be OK for the night. Drop me an email and well chat about it. hoss.mcdermottATsympatico.ca

Ian
Something in the wording about "defunct biker site" bothers me!!! LOL. This is starting to look good Ian. A different route than the wine tour, but ask my sons, I'll drive anywhere if I can do it in my 911. I'll be glad to help in any way I can... Mike, that's a really generous offer. Do you have room for tent's in your back yard? Terry |

copper update: Vesna is home now & improving. Please send your warm & fuzzy thoughts their way. In the midst of this, they also moved & Jim's engine is being rebuilt.
Fchat run: There was a large run last weekend on a route I developed. Another guy did the overall organization. A Porsche guy & an NSX guy organizing a Ferrari run . . . something bizarre there. Milton area & finishing at the Forks of the Credit. 40-50 cars - Ferraris, Lambos, an Aston, Elises, NSXs - a wild bunch from reports. I was a last minute no-show due to a family emergency. The 2 1/2 hr route was very well received although they had irate locals attacking in one small village due to the antics of some participants in the uncontrolled group. We can hold this route in reserve for the future. Photo Link Niagra run: The section that I mapped goes from the mountain in Hamilton to south of the Ball's Falls area. If someone could suggest a good link to Niagra-on-the-Lake, we could have a route. Hoss: I'll email you. TCB: Yeah, I sounds strange. It had the best road routes in Ontario with lots of input from riders but it disappeared in the last month. I have many of the routes mapped but most are in Muskoka & the Kawarthas (where the best roads are of course). Ian

Southern Ontario Runs
Possible run areas:
Milton - 1 hr lower speed ‘technical’ run followed by a country cruise north & lunch at Millcroft Inn or Elora Inn – or some other country Inn (maps & run route mostly developed) Niagara – Hamilton thru Grimsby/Vineland & thru St Catherines to wine area around Niagara-on-the-Lake. Stop at Reif or somewhere for a wine tour & lunch at Riverbend Inn or somewhere (1/2 the route is planned) Start at Mono Mills/Hwy 9 & meander north thru Hockley Valley over to Beaver Valley, lunch in Thornbury or thereabouts & across Blue Mountain & back (I driven some of this route – no plan – full reconnaissance needed) Start north of Orillia & drive Rt 13 to 169 then over to 400/69 & back through Big Chute ending in Coldwater (no recent experience but everybody uses the Rt 13 part for runs – full reconnaissance needed) Question 1) What turns everybody’s crank for a run? Question 2) What day – Saturday or Sunday? Question 3) What dates? With all of the 'street racing' events, a slow paced run might be a wise choice this summer. Ian
