Oops, forgot to bump the pelican thread, as well as the rennlist one. Jim and I got the engine out, transmission separated, loaded in the truck, tools put away and garage cleaned up all in about 9 hours, and that included lunch and dinner breaks. Not bad for first timers!
I took the tranny to the car wash Sunday night (jesus, that sounds dirty ) and power-washed it down. 30 minutes and $15 later I was soaked head to toe! I drove home in my socks and boxers, very slowly so as not to get pulled over. What a sight that would've been!So now I've got to crack her open and have a look-see inside, so the real fun is just beginning!

I am officially a transmission expert now. My car has gone over 500 km on my last rebuild with no issues.
email if you need help. I also have the proper sealant if you need some. |

Hey, that's great to know there's someone local in case I'm really in a bind. Which part needs a particular sealant? So far I've only read about dismantling and diagnosing - I haven't got to the reassembly part yet.

Transmissions are a bit tricky to do. There are a few oddball tools required, and the re-assembly process needs to be done carefully. Torquing some of the fasteners to the factory settings can be challenging.
There is a loctite sealant made for aluminum cases, you just apply it to the gaskets you buy. |
