autopartsonlinecanada

I also posted this on rennlist but I figured I might as well post here to see if this is an isolated occurrence.

WTF

www.autopartsonlinecanada.com

I used these guys once before and everything worked out. This time I order 2 parts from them and well, it didn't work out.

There was a problem shipping. Apparently UPS doesn't ship to my address. No one told me, I had to call them up and ask, then call UPS and track down the package. Whatever, a PITA but I got my package.

I open it up. Wow, look at that, the one part I really needed is not there. It is on the packing slip, it says 'quantity ordered = 1, quantity shipped = 0' But worry not, they were kind enough to charge my visa anyways.

I call them up, this is their explanation, 'well, we don't have it in stock so we couldn't ship it. But if you like I can write it in the report to have us refund you visa' Well thanks *******s. If you don't have it in stock why is it listed on your website as 'in stock'. More importantly, why did you let me order it and charge me for it if it clearly was never going to show up on my door step.

So now I am stuck here with a car that needs a part. I had ordered it with plenty of time to spare thinking it was going to get here by the weekend. Not so much. So I can't do the quick fix on my car and I can't take off for the weekend like I wanted to.

Am I the only one that sees something wrong with the way they do business. Do I really need to order something from them only to find an half empty box, call them back, and then find out they never had the part in the first place?

Pelican ships USPS to me (Calgary) all the time. Has there been a change in policy?

Perhaps I just need to investigate more. I could have been mistaken. I assume the brokerage fees are minimal if not non-existent

I've ordered through autopartsonline.com 7 times in the past year with no issues, but what happened to you is not cool.

One thing I noticed: I called their 1800# once to get some specific info about an oddball part I needed. I'm pretty sure they were in India or something. They were completely unable to answer any questions I had. I have a feeling they simply process orders by phone and send them to a mystery warehouse in Ontario.

Neri, I just re-read my response above, and realize I misread your question. I haven't tried autopartsonline, but I would tend to agree with you, it does not seem to me to be a good way to do things.

In regards to Pelican, I just specify USPS (United States Parcel Service - mail) and parts come through in about 2 weeks. Brokerage fee is $5, duty, gst extra.

I am not really big on posting forums but was going to purchase from auto parts online canada and say your forum, so I decided not to. I found www.autopartsway.ca instead and I am pleased I did. The service was very fast and they have lower prices too.

I too have used www.autopartsway.ca & have had good results.
Any shorts on the order have been refunded right away. Plus they are less expensive too than autopartsonlinecanada.com.
I'm in Ottawa & next day if the parts are in Toronto & 3 days if they come from Vancouver.(they have 2 warehouses)

Interesting that all these places seem to use the same data base including bestpricecarparts.com. I wonder if they all are actually using the same suppliers and are actually just the marketing front. They all seem to offer the same free shipping.

Tim I noticed the same thing, and BTW great to see your name

I actually just placed an order with Autopartsway - they were way cheaper on many parts.

Then I made a second order from our host on things that I needed from them.

I am hoping to get my car back on the road in the next few weeks YAY

Funny thing is my boys are as excited as I am about the car......and it has been of the road since during the pregnancy with them. So they have never had the chance to enjoy it!

Wow, nice to hear from you Shawn. It has been a while. We'll have to meet half-way sometime. I'm a lot closer now...

Tim we will definetly have to meet. I have 2 friends now who live in Beaumont, small world!

As for the round-up this year, I am actually thinking about it. My work schedule just changed this week and I am now off that weekend. Tim are you going?

The hard part for me, is I have one month to get my car ready to go. This will be after a 4.5 year siesta (and it needed work before I parked it) I am not sure if I can get it ready for that length of a trip, especially since I am out of town on courses for 2 of the next 4 weeks.

I think everyone is using the same company, WorldPac, and are each just a front for them. Even the walk in parts stores use the same databases.

Al: Nice to hear from you as well. I will probably skip the tour this year, but I retire a year from now, so will have lots more time then.

Shawn: As I recall, your ex neighbor lives about 3 blocks from us. Would love to see you anytime.

Same thing happend to me. I waited 2 weeks before I called them to see what the hold up was. They said I should have the parts in a couple of days when I placed the order. Turns out the parts were not in stock and they didn't know when they would be shipped. They emailed just a few days ago stating that they would credit my Mastercard. I think I will stick with Pelican now.

Autoparts way took 2 days delivery to my door.
That is excellent and FREE shipping to boot.
I am just waiting for my Pelican order to arrive then a few days work and I should be at least running .

Interesting. I've had a terrible experience with an online autoparts dealer sometime last year as well. I switched to autopartsway.ca and things have been pretty good. Their prices are really low which is so beneficial to part time auto mechanics like me.

I'll add my experience with Auto Parts Way

I ordered a set of Piston rings for a 944 as I needed them quickly so I couldn't wait for USPS to get them to me from Pelican, paid extra for 2 day delivery. Total cost was $198.00, a little higher than Pelican because of the expedited delivery, but not much.

When the package came it contained a set of piston rings for one piston. I have been talking to them for the last 3 weeks trying to get the rest of the set, their position is that although the catalog stated Standard 4 Piston Set, that in actual fact I had to order 4 to get enough for 4 pistons. THey completely refuse to acknowledge that this makes no sense what so ever as:

A. On the same item there is a note that if you are ordering this item for a 928 ( A V8 engine) two sets are required, they had no explanation as to how a 8 cylinder car required two sets, but a 4 cylinder car requires 4, other than some inane insistence that they didn't sell piston rings for 928's

B. Ordering 4 sets would mean that piston rings would cost over $600.00 for a 944

C. All their competitors sites (Including their own US site) show a price for a single piston set as ~ 1/4 what they claim their single price is

They will take back the single and refund me, but they will not refund the extra shipping I paid to get it quickly.

I currently have a dispute filed with VISA to get my entire purchase back.

So perhaps they are fine for many things, but I always think the measure of a company is not how they are when things go well, it is what they do when things do not, and in this case they get a massive fail for basically refusing to acknowledge that they made a mistake, and that they should fix it.

It's definitely a risk when ordering from these discount, on-line parts shops because there really is no "face" to deal with and the service clerks have no experience with the parts (other than what their book tells them). That aside I've had good luck with autopartsway although I've only ordered from them a couple of times. I've had horrible dealings with autopartsonlinecanada.com and will never deal with them again.
