Haycait, anyone you know?
Link.
parting out 1982 porsche 911SC Seems odd that someone would part a good straight relatively freshly rebuilt car for parts... Anyone you know?

I guess if you bought it cheap enough, there is money to be made. Just one less SC, right?

Bruce. is that yours?
in B.C., with our lovely government operated/controlled - insurance/licensing/registration monopoly, you often run into situations where a vehicle CAN'T be registered. a perfectly good, running car that due to the rules can't be put on the road. so you have a nice clean SC that can't be registered. do you try and sell it out-of-province? in a market where an SC can be picked up for a bargain anywhere, or part it off and make your money back that way. don't know if that's the situation in this case but I've run into it myself. sucks..... good discussion here. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/510006-slow-death-driver-quality-scs-even-carreras-disturbing-trend.html clean SC....10k sell- engine 3-4k trans 1-1.5k rims 1k that's up to 6.5k without touching little stuff or bonus items like sport seats, targa tops or SSI's. I can see the appeal. ps. that 10k might even be high/optimistic. 7-8k is probably more like it. Last edited by haycait911; 11-12-2009 at 12:05 AM.. |

Yes Don . it is .
car was a driver till a month ago. used to be 7-8 but now is more around 10 for something not all smashed or just plain junk this car needed paint and just enough little things to put it out of range at the selling end once done. the rebuilt engine was the bonus with this car. racers prefer a nice clean straight shell to start with and that is what I always end up with and try to have one available every spring for some ones next project.. for me this started 20+years ago when I stripped down my first 911 for racing and had all these parts laying around.sell a little here and a little there. then came the internet. |

I can sympathize. it's killer. a decent paint job can easily run 5k, on a 10k car. add in any suspension or engine work and unless it's a long-term keeper it gets silly in a hurry.

With the cost of labor, if you're not doing it yourself, it isn't getting done... unless it is a particularly valuable example.
Just sad to see good cars cut up and parted out.

bpositive.
There are not many ,if any Porsche wrecking yards in Canada. At least by doing this it offers some good parts at reasonable prices for people who want to try working or building a car on their own. One car being torn down may help resurrect many. Bruce |

Hmmm...kinda makes me wonder if I should dismantle my perfectly good 964 cabriolet. I figure realistically in today's market in Calgary it's worth around $25k. Part it out...maybe high $30's?

have a look through the CIS section on pelican, the part prices compared to common used prices will convince you. how many cars would be parked rather than driven for the lack of $500 for an air regulator for CIS? or over $500 for a blown airbox. when you can buy a complete CIS for $400-$500 used. all in all I consider these cars a relative bargain to drive. mostly because of the cost and availability of good, used parts. |

FWIW, it is a LOT of work to dismantle and sell/ship a car's worth of parts. considerably harder from canada when the big market is in the next country. and you always wind up with a big pile that's not worth the cost of shipping. I have a trailer full of longnose parts that fall into this category. I just can't bring myself to throw them away. so I pay storage.
