Battery mounting and options

Hi,

I had to buy a new battery last year for my 79. It's the same international one I had in the past, but this time it's just a little too big to be mounted with the standard clips in the fender.

I autox it so I need a solid hold down. I've been looking at other batteries in the 911 forum but there are too many choices, but not real world Canadian options (cold weather, taken out every year, etc.) I would like to get feedback on options for either a new battery (smaller) that I can use a mounting kit on, or other options...

I was thinking of taking a file to the sides of mine, but that looks like a disaster in the making.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

I really like the optima batteries for the usual reasons. if yours is the same as the one in my old SC, it's HUGE! I run a smallish optima in my SWB. it turns a 3.0 with a hi-torque starter through 45 year-old wiring easily and for extended periods. a three season car so haven't started it below freezing but everything up to that point. probably weighs a third what your stock one does. easier to use blocks to shim your existing mount to fit a smaller battery.

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking of the Optima, but there are a few interesting posts on it here, so I wasn't sure. Why the yellow top versus red top?

Do you take your battery out for the winter and if so do you leave a trickle charger on it?

I picked this one because it was the smallest/lightest one the auto supply had on the shelf that day. batt stays in for the winter, in a heated garage.
