Good, two 7mm kidney stones and it's been a long haul, but it's a long story about an incompetent, now former urologist.
I dumped him and now have the pro's at St. Michael's in TO handing my case.

Yep 30 years, over 100+ stones.
Benign tumor on my para-thyroid, I haven't made new ones since I had it removed , but I'm still loaded with stones from pre-OP. I've had trust issues for quite a while with my old uroligist, so I would let him touch my kidneys. I got a new GP and he said enough of this BS and sent me to Toronto.
Now I have enough trust with the new pro, head of urology for St.Mike's kidney center, that I'll likely get my kidneys cleaned out.
So I'm likely looking at least 2 more kidney surgeries in the near future.

Frankly the reason my 914 isn't done (been 95% done for a
a couple years now) is because at the end of the day I just don't have the energy to work on my car.

I'm still recovering but it's the first time in 2 years I haven't been in pain.

Mark, that's quite an ordeal. I can understand how that would put a damper on your motivation. My 914 has been a work in progress for a few years now and I don't have any of those issues so don't feel bad. If I was a little closer I'd come over and give you a hand.

PS, do you have any advice on getting a taco plate to stop leaking? I'm going to remove it in the next couple of days and reexamine what else I can do. I think I'll install some mounting studs while I'm at it.

Often the taco plate is over tightened distorting the plate or striping out the 6mm bolt holes. The plate can often be straightened out with careful hammer work. Although I'm a proponent of using timeserts the 6mm helicoils work just fine for repairing the 6mm bolt holes. BTW every engine I have ever built I helicoil these threads no matter what condition they're in.
Other causes is damage to the Oring sealing surface of the case, I use a wire wheel and then polish with 4-600 grit paper.
I use Dow55 on the Oring when installing the plate, but in the past I've had success with the loctite liquid teflon pipe dope. Oil will work, but I've had much better success with the other two methods.
Do not over tighten, 6mm is only around 9lbs torque.
