Winter Maintenance and Repairs

Finally got the car into the shop for the annual maintenance and a few small repairs.

Oil and filter change
Trans oil change - found a metal chunk attached to the magnet so rebuild time coming very soon. Will this be before or after driving to Rennsport???
Lubed distributor shaft and replaced distributor cap and rotor. The shaft has a very slight wobble so it tends to beat up caps and rotors each year. Some day I will drop the $ for machining a new bearing surface. Until then............
Replaced rear brake flex lines and flushed the brake fluid
Adjusted front wheel bearings.
Replaced headlight gasket and adjusted headlight aim down a little.
New rear tires.
Swapped TBar keys side for side. Been chasing a front end clunk for a couple years. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/813002-front-suspension-clunk.html Narrowed down to the keys last Summer. With car jacked up the keys are sloppy on the ends of the TBars. Swapped and they are tighter on the TBars. Will find out if this resolves the clunking.
New antenna.
New front lid strut. LOL.....works like Viagra - it stays up now!!
Pulled speedo to fix odometer and see why it is slow to register speed when it is cold.
Repainting steering wheel spokes - chip in paint.

Rosie will be ready for another driving season. Yahoo!!!

JJ, had the car out today on a day permit for a shakedown drive. Car runs good. Transmission shifted well so no immediate rebuild plans. Still have a front suspension clunk - much less than before, but certainly something there. I will pull it apart tomorrow morning.

Lotusland weather........clear skies and sunshine today, but you folks back east tend to have more sunshine than us wet coasters.

And, the thermometer managed to touch 13d C this afternoon. Of course, this means the daffodils are blooming and the lawn needs to be cut.

I just checked the weather out your way............holy crap!! Bundle up and stay warm.

I wanted to get out oh the road today - 11 degrees and double digits all next week! Better get on that valve adjustment, I suppose...

I've been driving a bunch this winter. It's been so dry and mild. Awesome to be able to get this much fair weather wheel time here after the craptastic winter we had last year.

Well, still have a clunk at the T-bars/adjuster keys. Driving me crazy. I am going to experiment with a few options. Will post results later.

But, that will be a few days....doing the head gasket (again) on my daughter's worn out car. F'ing Chrysler 4 bangers!!!! No room to work in engine bay and not that much fun. The damn thing is fighting me. Likely shouldn't have sworn at it. Bloody crank pulley is rusted on. Letting the penetrating oil soak for the night.
