My new to me 82 911!

Hi everyone!

Well after many months of looking, I finally found one that fit the criteria, and I didn't even have to travel very far! I'd like to thank all of you for educating me on "the good, the bad, and the ugly" aspects of owning/purchasing one. This is my first one, and I'd like to give a special thank-you to Jim in Calgary for all your assistance, I owe you big time!

I do have a few plans in the immediate future. There are a few things to fix, a few oil leaks, brake service but other than that it drives awesome! The ride height is much too high for my liking, and the spoiler is too big for the narrow bodies, IMO. So I plan to give the car a good going through this weekend, swap my trunks out and drive! Already have a pretty big pelican order put together, haha.

If anyone in Edmonton wants to meet up this weekend for a beer/coffee let me know! Would be great to meet a few local guys!

Things I'm looking for: Duck tail lid, 28mm Wheel Spacers, SC front Spoiler or fiberglass valences.

Nice ride, Ryan!
Welcome to the forum.

Someone is going to pipe up that you shouldn't be running that big tail without the chin spoiler on the other end so it might as well be me.

You're right, it does look like it could come down a bit in ride height.

Cheers,

Nice! Welcome to the club.
Red is the best colour!
That looks to be a Turbo tail someone added after.

Congrats!

Yes lots of us here that have modded SC's, just ask if you have any questions.

And yes a chun spoiler, maybe a ducktail, and euro height would look awesome.

Congrats on a great looking car! I agree with you to lower it and lose the turbo tail - but other than that - it is a sweet looking ride, Nice.

Got a few things done this weekend. Really just been trying to familiarize myself with the car, as my knowledge about them is limited. Clean the front trunk out by the battery. It appears one exploded a while ago from PO and never got cleaned up, so I sorted that out. No rust!

Engine is quite dirty, which really irritates me. Cleaned up a few areas that have been seeping oil to monitor and see how bad they are. I'll likely replace the S hose as well as both lines in the rear fender well from/to the cooler.

Swapped rear hoods too! Much better with the whale tail gone! The air conditioning has been removed in the car at some point, so the lower center console wasn't much good. Decided to remove it and I really like the way it looks. Much more floor space and just less clutter. There are 3 holes in the carpet/vinyl left so I'll pick up some black plugs tomorrow for those spots. I'm going to do some black rennline floorboards as well to finish it off below.

As you can see, the seats are in rough shape. Looks like the PO never did any interior work, which I dont mind. Floor mats are a bit rough as well as the seats. The steering wheels needs a couple stiches put back in it too.

The only possible negative about removing the console in your case is that most lose the AC controls which can turn on the fan for the AC. Big deal, right? Maybe, but the air from that AC fan exits the front and centre dash vents. It might be nice to have that extra air flow in a car with no AC and I'm pretty sure it's only the evaporator fan air that comes out that vent.

It'd be kinda cool to have the non-AC car's complete HVAC system in there...

I left all the controls in there tucked away, so it's easily reversible! I'm a windows down kinda guy anyways..

Very nice car! I am thinking that that interior color combo was not original... but then I am no expert. I like it either way.

The leather colour was only from 81-83. It's called Hannibal gray 60S. Doesn't seem to be too common.

Looks good with the factory engine lid!

The drivers door pocket flip lid appears bent down in the middle, it can be straightened by simply bending it. You can form it with your hands as it has a stiff wire inside.

Will do!

Looks like no one seems to have or even can get ahold of the Hannibal leather.... Of course...

Did a big parts order today so I'll have a few things to do! Bought some turbo tie rods with that so I think I'll lower the car this weekend and then install those when they arrive and get a fresh alignment!

More progress today! Took a trip down to Calgary to pick up some replacement seats. Spent a few hours cleaning and conditioning them, and I think they turned out realllllly good! It's a huge improvement over the ones that were previously in the car. This is the first step of my interior colour swap, next up RS carpet and RS America door panels. Anyone have a black dash around?

Thanks for the seats Bob!

Quick comparison of when I got it:

And now!

IMG_2343 by Ryan Watson, on Flickr

I think black is the way they should have come from the factory! I'm quite happy with the new/used seats. I look forward to doing the doors and carpet next. I have some parts showing up this week, and looks like I'll have to do a wheel bearing in the next little while. I replaced the front rotors and pads this past weekend in an effort to stop the clicking, only to discover its not those. But the new ceramic pads feel muchhhhh better. No big deal!

And here is where the porsche craze started for me, my friend in Japan with one of the original RWB before they were famous (me on the left):
