Hi Guys,
I find myself looking closer and closer towards trying to upgrade to a 89-94 Carerra 2. The only problem is, I haven't had the opportunity to actually drive one yet, and frankly they don't come available too often. Has anyone on here owned one and have an opinion on it again a impact bumper car. My SC is very healthy, but I find myself wanting the upgraded suspension and engine.. Anyone local in the Edmonton area currently own one? Any Input from previous 964 owners? Thanks

Hear a lot of the people who move to a 964 or 993 complain that the raw feeling of the earlier cars isn't there....
I have no first hand knowledge.

I agree with Bills assessment. I put a few miles on a 964 and a bunch of miles on a 993. Both cars are very refined compared to an SC though the essence remains in terms feel with rear weight bias, doors, seats, belts, dash etc. The steering is super light being power and they shift like any modern car.
There is less deterioration as interior is a little better assembled, window mouldings fit better etc. One big difference is they are way more powerful with far more low end torque with the 3.6. I also like Brad Wall. |

Interesting that the 964 was a somewhat unloved a few years back. Sold at a discount to earlier 911 cars. I think Singer has helped the program, along with those buying for the engine. I am not a huge fan of the front and rear bumper treatment and the stock C2 wheels - of course the turbo with the gorgeous speedline wheels is another story. Awesome car.

Found a c4 that interests me a bit, but I'm not sure I want awd. It's even the colour I want, but I don't want to settle on one. I'd rather pay a bit extra for the right options if it comes along.
I really need to get in the seat of one for a drive to know. Until then, the sc parts keep stacking up!

If everything thing lines up, like color but more importantly price/condition, then I'd say you might consider the infrequent opportunity in front of you.

I have an 911 89 cab and a 90 964 AWD car.
The 964 is faster, more fun and more comfortable. I prefer the 964 in almost every way. Better seats, easier to drive fast, great traction, heat works right, etc etc. My 911 cab looks better, that's the only place it's better.

You could drive it for free, but they are both off the road until April.

I drove a '91 C4 as a daily driver for almost 4 years. They are fantastic cars. I'd only get a C4 if you intend to use it in the snow though, the awd makes it a lot heavier, a bit less agile and a LOT more complicated... but makes it a TON of fun in the snow

I've driven both: early cars feel a bit more.. mechanical? The 964 and 993 feel much more modern, especially shifting. I find I have way more fun in my middie, for about an hour, then I'd rather be in a later car.
I'm hoping I can find a 993 C4S to use when my wife is with me, and daily drive to work, keep the '74 as a street legal go kart. After driving this, I need one:
