Guys, I'm planning to have my duco freshened up with a complete respray in the original Porsche black.
Who can recommend a good body shop in Melbourne who won't rape you with P-car taxes? I'm not after a show car job (car is a daily driver, not a garage queen), but I want it to be of good quality and last a long time ![]() Recommendations please?

I've used Paint and Custom in Thornbury, they seem reasonable and are good.
How's the pricing at the Healey Factory?

I've not got a quote from Paint and Custom for my job yet to compare with Healey Factory (around $8K) , but Healey is way cheaper than say Charlie Batisti.

8k wouldnt get you a bare metal paint at paint & custom. (please correct me if im wrong)
dare say 8k would be a rub back, pick up repairs and then paint a lot of work involved in bare metal and 8K just wouldnt cover it. seen some top notch work comeout of Lou at Paint & Custom though. |

I always thought that a bare metal respray was around $10K.

there is a place on south rd, moorabbin. they specialise in porsche body repairs, sprays etc. cant remember the name of them. They are near the corner of chesterville rd, just about 100-200m past the sandbelt hotel. Have them quote you also. good luck

I got my dog scratches done at Paint & Custom which required bonnet, front bumper and 2 front fenders to be repsrayed. It was about $2700.
Was happy as insurance paid and all my stone chips were all removed.

The plan was to paint the car the same color, Emerald Green Metalic, I have no obvious rust spots (been checked several times over), no major panel work other than rub back, masking, some component removal and paint. Some panels were repainted in 96 by previous owner so this job is really me being picky about getting rid of wear and tear paint chips, some fading on the left rear and small paint damage on the driver door. Also the engine cover has been in storage for 20 years, previous owner had whale tail, so it is not as faded as other general body work but does need touching up. I'll get to Paint and Custom in the next 3-4 weeks, after the long weekend and see what Lou reckons, he's a mate of a mate so you never know. I bought my car from Healey Factory 2 years ago and stay in touch with some of the guys there and have seen the quality of the work they have done, I'm only new at this game but there work is pretty good. I've had some contact with Charlie Bastisti but they are into prestige crash repair not really interested in respray jobs like mine.
Spectre - have i followed you down blackburn road on occassion?, I'm in Lower Templestowe. cheers

WOW, I can't believe it costs ~$8k for a rub-back and fresh coat of paint! Not even a color change?!? WTF?
These Porsche body shops really see you coming a mile away don't they? ![]() I would expect to pay $4-5k for a fresh coat. I'll get a quote from a Porsche body shop and then a quote from a "normal" body shop and then go back to the Porsche shop and ask them to justify where the extra few $K is going. My guess is it's all P-tax

Spectre,
how did you go with your quotes?. I finally got to Paint and Custom and I think the story is similar - 7-8K for removal of items (bumpers, mirrors, lights etc) rub back to bear metal and paint. this excludes under hoods, any extra repairs if needed and anything I need or want to replace, say seals etc which I will probably do adding more costs (parts and labour) - so i am looking at 10-12 coz i want other stuff done. i'll go back to p&c based on the fact they do more porsche jobs, if i had a healey i'd go to healey factory i guess. cheers

I actually went to paint and custom about 4 - 6 weeks ago after reading this thread and they were expensive and reluctant to assist. Based on my experience with them, I wouldn't evern bother taking a trip down there!! I am now Using Jason from Chequered Flag - 9720-7911 Who is a guru on all that is Porsche.

Agreed. Jason is one of the best guys around.
Have a look at the quality of the work on the cars in the workshop. Top shelf.
