PC NSW Track Season starts soon

The Porsche Club on NSW track season gets off to a start on 22nd February at Oran Park South circuit.

Who's planning on doing some track time this year?

Tim

Hey Tim - just missed you at Carlos' on Tuesday. looking forward to getting back to the track, especially Oran Park. Hoping to be there on 22/2. Have you done any more mods?

Yeh - he said you were due to come in. Oh well... just have to catch up during the season.

As for mods, have just fitted a dead pedal if you count that. I have not yet fitted the adjustable front sway bar. Rear was in for the BMW challenge and I started getting traction problems coming onto the main straight - I don't have a LSD and the inside rear was getting light instead of the inside front.

Mainly looking for weight savings now which will not ping me under the club rules - can't do too much more except drive it!!!! Any engine mods you are looking at big $'s.

Tim

Track time

I could do -but not in time for Oran Park - "like to watch" as well, but will probably drop out.
Have to get a car finished -the old story.

if I can buy myself a new set of fronts in time I will.....otherwise i'll have to miss it.

but I did something silly and went and got married, so now I have no money to throw at the porky.

I am hoping to get my act together for round2 at Eastern Creek.

I still haven't tried out my new brakes on the track!!!

Nathan - Congratulations on the recent nuptials.
You mean to tell me you didn't have front tyres on your wedding list?
Can the Mrs drive a manual? If so are you in danger of losing your competition spot?

Shame we're only able to drive the South circuit all year. Pretty weird as they have quite a few mid week open days on the GP circuit. What's up with that??
Hoping to have the engine in the signature installed before the 2nd round. Could prove interesting.

filled out the series entry today, i would like to drop the car into A class this year. having my car in open R because a few of the commitee wouldnt believe what was on the car was a little bit of a joke. Im looking forward tot he 2 eastern creek days. shame about oran though. some of you guys should do the motokhana as well, bit more testing then you think.

Planning on doing the Motokhana this year - never done it before. BTW is it best to use R-Spec or just street tyres for MK?

The second Oran Park day is GP circuit - spoke to Tom the other day. Original date was South but revised date is GP - which is good.

I think you will find the competition commitee is a lot more even handed this year - we are trying to get back to the fun rather than pretending we are betting sheep stations. (yep - I'm on it). We are trying out a series of altenative points schemes/rules this year (in the backgound) - if they look like they result in a fairer determination of 'Club Champ' or 'Class Champ' then we will introduce for 2010.

Tim, I find that R spec are better than street tyres. You probably won't get either up to much heat and I hardly ever get out of 1st gear. You do half in the dry in the morning and half in the wet in the arvo. As long as you have a bit of tread on your R spec you'll be fine. Street tyres are very noisy but that doesn't mean anything as such, just that they're fighting for grip. I find the most difficult aspect of the M-khanas is remembering the course. Big penalties for missing a cone!

That's good news re the 2nd track day at OP!

The problem with the class system is that you would be in a certain class but the committee would just put you up higher because you were quick or they thought you were cheating in some way, or they didn't want a front engined car to do well again heheh.
I am actually entering in Open S this year but won't have slicks for the 1st event so I'm doing some inverse penalizing of myself.
Who can I contact over the phone to talk to about this?

Patrick

Had a great day at Oran Park. It was nice to meet you Tim. You and Marty were putting in some great times and your cars looked awsome. I feel sorry for Keiren, in the Boxter that hit the wall. Glad to here he was ok.
The little green T ran well. No 'wheels up' after bigger torsion bars added. before today I was hoping to get under a minute (first time at OP), I was in the 57's last time I checked....very happy considering my 80hp @ the wheels.
Looking forward to the next round.

Had a great time - good to meet you and all the others - putting faces to all the Pelican names!! Weather was kind as well - warm track but not too hot with the cloud cover.

The results are up on Natsoft now - Matt your best was 57.8130 which is a great result for you - well under you target minute.

I'm happy - 53.3630 is well under my previous best from 2 years ago. Marty was right on my tail with 53.5156 - going to be close between us this season.

Tim

After a somewhat slow start, it turned out tone another great day, lots of tumbling lap times and a good turn out. I think I penalised myself though, next time I'll turn up with only 1/2 tank of fuel & some jerry cans - 70 ltrs in a 80 ltr tank along with a heavy driver adds an extra, well let's just say at least 60kg weight penalty - especially against Tim the shrinking man.

Yep always a good idea to take at least one canister of extra fuel just in case. Especially for turbo cars!!
It was a great day all in all. Shook the cobwebs out and it looked like virtually everyone beat their previous best times.
I hadn't done the South circuit since end of '06 with a 51.5, so doing 49.5 was nice.
Great to see so many different and varied cars from the little 914/6 up to the 996 Cup S.
Turns out Kieran broke a rib but he's ok. Not sure on the car though? There is definitely a risk / reward at that track and the fact that they're selling it off doesn't help with the upkeep of the track as
some of you would have noticed!
I know that I had quite a few 'squirrely' moments but that might have been partially due to a rear lhs tyre that was quite a bit too low psi and the shocks were set too soft...well they're my excuses anyway
Bring on the next event!!!

Some good news for me this week. Ray Fowler came with me to do a dyno run at tillys and then down to Beach wheels to get the car weighed.
at the dyno the car produced 275.4hp at the wheels offset that with the car weight at 1380kg and i have a KG/KW number at 5.09. just made it into A class. Im very happy about the result
