Make Bruins Great Again
|
IMO NASCAR is the most sub-intellectual sport known to man
I turn on NBCSN expecting to see Indycar at Sonoma. Instead I see bumper cars crashing every 1/4 lap. What is the thrill of watching this?
Rant over.

Stay in your own little snob circle. F1 does nothing for me, and never has.

No love for F1 either. I just don't see the thrill of watching cars push each other off the track and crash.
Now you can go back to "hold my beer and watch this"...

NASCAR is a marketing success. Its the smart guys that are hidden behind the scenes that get the money and attention of the those folks that you speak of. If you look beyond the colors and stickers, the engineering behind these cars is quite impressive.

I have great respect for those that have the ability to drive these cars well. I have no interest in seeing a crash every lap (boring) and driver literally taking out their competitor by bumping them off the track (so, the dirtiest driver wins?). To me, this is one step below Death Race

Nascar left it's fan base in the 1990's and has found themselves without a footing. I agree the cars are impressive, but they should be. Penske recently stated that he could run 3 Indycars for the money he's spending on just one of his Nascar teams.

Here's a picture of the good 'ol days. How many rules are being broken here if this was a race today?

I too was not impressed to be watching Nascar when I wanted Indy car
I used to watch Nascar mostly for the road courses but between awful commentators , WWE type scripted finishes and the France family draining every penny out of the " sport " I stopped watching long ago . Based on the latest TV ratings and the empty seats I am not alone in my thoughts . It would appear the organization has lost its way .I fear a similar demise is coming to F1 if they don't get their act together . Boring races and WAY too many rules are slowing innovation and creativity . The glory days of V12/V10 engines have been replaced by V6 engines that sound like a Honda with a fart can muffler ! I'm not saying IMSA has a perfect set of rules but the races for the most part are fairly exciting with real racing/position changes every race . Just being the polesitter in a given category is NOT a guarantee of a win which is how it should be in my opinion . End of rant .......... sorry

Hummmm, NASCAR has a "throw back weekend" at Darlington each year so why not go ALL THE WAy AND HAVE THE PIT crews, drivers, ETC just like the picture above? Even allow some creative rules bending????

I watched the Cup race yesterday. They do no normally crash like that. It was not a typical race. First race of the chase put pressure on them to get max points and they were pushing the cars too hard. Also it was over100* F ambient and over 140* F inside the cars. I think maybe that was a factor. I will continue to watch even if some people think it is stupid.

Dale Earnhardt Sr was idolized for knocking people out of his way. I agree that a competitor should be kicked off the track for a flagrant offense. However, there’s something to be said for nascar’s ability to duct tape the car back together and finish the race. Indy cars appear to hit a bump on the track the wrong way and be out of the race.

The answer is either
A. All of 'em. or B. Trick question, there would be no race there today because Nascar abandoned the bullrings for the 1.5 mile snooze-a-thons.

If it's racing I mostly love it.
F1, Indy, MotoGP, Le Mans, Sebring, Flat track bikes, and Nascar I can enjoy most of it.
BTW take note in two weeks the Nascar race at Charlotte will be run on the road course, which means infield and oval (a bit of both), and shouldn't be missed. Finally a road course at an oval track. The good ole boys will love it (maybe) I've been hoping for years that they should run the infield road course at Daytona for the July 400 instead of a second race on the oval. One Daytona 500 a year is enough. |

I'm not sure why a motor-sport that does not interest you is labelled sub-intellectual.
Boring? Fine. Pointless? You're welcome to your opinion. Sub-intellectual? Based on what? Soccer does nothing for me, but I can't generalize about the IQ of the fans.

All racing has hit lows in attendance. No one is doing anything wrong with the presentation, the interest is just not there. I agree that if you attend any form of racing, you will be more of a fan. Quote:

What a challenge in setting up the cars to race on both the oval track and the road course in the same race. The drivers have made a lot of effort in becoming good on the road courses in recent years. But the engineers have never had to deal with this combined sort of course before. This first race will be fun to watch. Cheers Richard |
