Don,
I was really hoping you would chime in. I am not much of a mass market person myself and would much rather a smaller more personal experience.... though not overly boutique. I'll PM you my email.

Campo Fina is a great place.
Bistro 29 is a fantastic place. Great deal during their happy hour or blue plate time.

bump back to the top!
SO is now my wife and we are heading back to the Napa/Sonoma area 8/26 - 9/1. We were heading to Maui for our honeymoon but figured now isn't the best time to visit. Vash, not sure if you're around but I'd love to grab a pliny at RR if available.

Having just been dragged there this w/e I feel obligated to mention the salesforce transit center park. A nice walk amidst the skyscrappers downtown and there is a beer garden (with empanadas) in the middle, so it's fun for all.

If you rent a car out of SFO make sure you take before and after pictures. I got completely scammed by rental agency Sixt who 1 month after return of car billed me $280+ for a destroyed driver side mirror. I was like hell to the no but did not have pictures and they dinged my credit. Im guessing someone at SFO rental garage did the damage, they actually make you sigh a vandalism waiver upon rental saying avoid the city and leave car unlocked. First time in 30+ years renting cars at airport I got scammed. YMMV

thanks for the heads up. I am pretty good about taking a quick 360 degree video of every rental. One day I am sure it will save my butt.
I have zero intention to spend any time in San Francisco proper.

Calistoga is worth a visit and a dinner. I really enjoyed staying at a duplex at the Indian Springs resort there. Lots of spas there for massage and if you're feeling adventurous, a mud bath.

For a nice coastal hike, try the Coastal Trail in Half Moon Bay. A good route would be from Cowell Purisima Coastal Trailhead, then north to the Ritz, where you can get a burger at the golf shack next to Mullens. It's about 7-8 miles out and back, mostly flat. Beautiful views, and you can go down to some nice beaches along the way.
I think this trail is still open only on weekends. Otherwise, park at the end of Poplar Street and go north from there, as far as you want. Traffic on 92 to HMB on weekends can be pretty heavy after 10AM.
