That's a tough question. I really liked the Africa Twin for its off road worthiness. The 21" front tire, the way the power was delivered. It was smooth and fairly capable. On road it was a joy to ride but lacked the punch of the GS. It was the 1000cc version though. Maybe the 1100 is better.

The GS feels more sporty on the road and that's kinda where I live, the sporty side. The GS is also loaded up with electronic suspension adjustment, cruise control, heated grips, TPMS, etc, etc.

The GS is also quite capable off road with the enduro pro modes. So I prefer the GS for my riding style. It's such a great highway cruiser to eat up miles, super fun on the twisty bits (more so than the A/T) and powerful, and easy to ride on forest service roads, etc. I'm too chicken to take it on single track stuff. Way too heavy for that for this guy.

Thanks Eric. I’m thinking about a dual sport next year and the BMW F series look appealing as the GSs look a bit big to me. Though I had big R series Bimmers years ago I’ve been exclusively riding dirt bikes for years and as I am moving to rural France next year I am considering my next bike for touring the local roads. I feel we are so spoilt for choice these days. Great times.

We are indeed. So many choices.
Don't discount the Big R GS. It's a brilliant motorcycle and is surprisingly easy to ride and forgiving. You may want to try both back to back before making a decision.

Cool shot, Bill!

Yamaha has come out with some really fantastic machines over the years. It was my first bike when I was in high school.

Yeah, great bikes. I put a Dunstall two into one, then back into two, exhaust onto this bike. Wow. It really improved the power band with a lot more high rev's.

Looking at my hair and attitude, shame I couldn't play the guitar or sing LOL
